Prospect House, Morkelstraat/Street, Somerset-Wes(t) 7130 Postnet 217 P Bag/sak x29, Somerset-Wes(t) 7129 Tel Fax vergezicht123@gmail.com The Inkpot Dear Vergezicht family, Some of us have traveled far, far away during the holidays, while others had to stay and keep the home fires burning. In this issue we take a look at all the activities that took place during the last week of the previous term, share exciting holiday news and give a preview on what awaits us in the third term. July 2014 Kind regards, The News Team. Katharina and Nicola Steele visited Namibia. Just look at the interesting giant seed pod in Nicola s hand! Dates to remember: 7 August: The school visits the Dinosaur Exhibition in Cape Town 6 September: Rainbow in the storm ADHD & Dyslexia Information Day

Educational visit: Grade 6 s visit Blue Jay Last term the Grade 6 s visited Blue Jay to see how much work it is to get food ready for distribution in the shops. They had a first hand experience of the food packing industry and had great fun. Oh, this white cap on my head... Here they are being explained to on how the boxes are folded and how many of the Pink Lady apples are transported to Woolworths. Thousands of apples are washed before being packed. This was a great learning experience. Thanks to Blue-Jay and Miss Jana Retief!

Outreach Actionreik-aksie During the last week of Term Two the Gr 4-7 learners made and donated hotdogs for the Halli Trust to take to Smartie Town. Wow, this looks so good, I m tempted to eat it...

Our Games Day

Holiday News Our staff s suitcases worked overtime during the holiday. Mrs Megan Eksteen relaxed in Mauritius, Mrs Welna Gilbert was a tourist in Kenya (and adopted an elephant) and our Grade R teacher, Hanel Neethling basked in the summer sun of Europe! Malcolm Niemand ( Gr 5e) reports about his holiday: MY PEACEFUL HOLIDAY We left on the Thursday morning at 4am. Seven hours later, we crossed the border. Yeh! Namibia again! Three hours later we got through the border and one hour later we got to our camp. We stayed there for one night. We went to the Etosha for two nights and then we drove to a strange place ( Monjilla) for one night. In Etosha we saw wide empty spaces and many, many animals like rhino s, elephants, hippo s, jackals and giraffes. We went to a lady who showed us white elephants. It took two days to get home and our dad left for work and we got home and saw our kitten again after three weeks! While Nicola Steele was in Namibia she kept a very informative diary and made this striking pencil sketch.

Mrs Helise Mieny s learners report: Babies... Little 2, 4 kg Isabel Archer opened her eyes on 26 June Congratulations Landi! You ll love Nokkie Hartman visited grandson Christiaan Hartman

playing with this dolly. in England. Hard holiday work... Mrs Carin ten Cate and the maintenance team used lots of elbow grease during the holiday in the upkeep of the building. According to our school s vision and mission we undertake to equip our learners with the following values: Respect Teamwork Loyalty Responsibility Honesty If we look at this happy bunch we actually want to add: Vergezicht is the place where

learning is fun! DINOSAURUS DAY, CAPE TOWN 7 AUGUST Do yourself a favour and Google daysofthedinosaur.co.za to find out more about the magnificent exhibition our children are going to see. They will spend a whole school day there and parents have to prepare themselves for all the stories they ll hear when the children are back at home. Gr R-Gr 7 s are going to visit the Days of the Dinosaur Exhibition. Venue: CTICC Cape Town, 7 August 2014 Food: As usual for school: Food and water / something to drink. We are making use of ELWIERDA semi-luxury bus (with seatbelts) to transport our learners to the CTICC. The bus will arrive at 07h30 and we ll leave on the dot at 08h00. Learners will be back at 13h00. Our Grade 1 s get a new teacher: Mrs Amori Hanekom Amori obtained her B.Ed degree at the University of Stellenbosch and previously taught at Destinatus Private School Brackenfell. She says, I love the outdoors and like to play tennis and netball. I relax by jogging along the beautiful Strand beaches. I enjoy working with children and believe that God created everyone to be unique. Thank you so much for entrusting me with your children. I ll try my best to teach and nurture them with love and patience.

He undertakes a great deal of the training of medical professionals in the treatment of ADHD. A brilliant speaker, able to make the topic interesting, he expounds - comprehensively and objectively - both the positives and the negatives of ADHD. " Na afloop van n 2013 André Venter Werkswinkel is haar kommentaar: Baie dankie vir Saterdag se spesiale geleentheid. Ek moet julle komplimenteer met hierdie goed gereëlde byeenkoms. Dit was n plesier en n voorreg om dit te kon bywoon. Dr Lynn Dunstan, Psychologist from Somerset West: "Professor Venter communicates his knowledge and understanding of ADHD in a way that helps both parents and professionals come that much closer to a deep appreciation of what children with ADHD experience." After a 2013 André Venter Workshop she commented, Thank you so much for inviting me to join you as a guest on Saturday - I consider it to be a huge honour and was delighted to participate in such a well-organized, successful and informative workshop. Congratulations to you all for making it such a worthwhile day! Marietjie de Vries, Arbeidsterapeut van Stellenbosch sê: Ek was nou al by beide kursusse wat julle aangebied het van Prof Venter. Dit is altyd vir my n ongelooflike goeie kursus. 12 Welna Gilbert in Nairobi. We had the opportunity to go to Kenya for the June holidays. It was an unforgettable experience for me and my husband. In Nairobi we visited the "Giraffe Centre" where I got to kiss a giraffe! We adopted an orphaned little elephant at the "David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust" and became her parents. She is one year old and her name is Oltaiyoni. For an annual fee we get monthly reports regarding her progress, as well as photos to watch her growing. What a lovely holiday! Megan Eksteen in Mauritius. My husband and I went with my in-laws visiting Mauritius. The scenery and beaches are stunning and we also looked at a volcano, a sugar factory and the botanical gardens with giant water lilies.

Good bye, the third term is going to be a wonderful term!
