August August May 2013 August May 2013 Cornell Prisoner Education Program Teaching Assistant Volunteered weekly for one year as a Teaching Assistant for the program, which offers college-level courses and credit to inmates at the Auburn Correctional Facility. Resident Advisor Counseled residents as they adjusted to being away from home, to campus life, and to community living; also mediated conflicts between residents, such as roommate disagreements and bias-related incidents. Created a strong sense of community among the 192 residents by organizing inclusive social and educational activities, demonstrating sensitivity to the diversity of residents, establishing the expectation that all residents would treat each other with respect, and encouraging resident participation in the residence hall s governing body. Communicated and collaborated with on and off-campus offices, such as counseling, campus security, Planned Parenthood, etc., and provided residents with information about them as needed. Art Beyond Cornell Art Counselor Volunteer Volunteered weekly for two years with an on-campus group that teaches art at local juvenile prisons as a form of rehabilitation. Developed art projects for teenagers and facilitated hands-on sessions. RESEARCH EXPERIENCE: August Present Department of Applied Psychology FACES Lab Graduate Research Assistant Supervisor: Anil Chacko Administering K-SADS-PL to parents to make ADHD diagnosis of their child (an eligibility requirement for the Activate intervention study) and determine if there is comorbidity with other disorders.

3 Page 3 of 5 Administering sustained attention and academic assessments to children, including the TEC, WISC-IV, and WRAT4, to measure improvements throughout the Activate intervention study and to assess IQ (an eligibility requirement). Coaching participants (both parents and children) on how to most efficiently use the Activate computerized brain-training program, including instruction on how to implement a weekly reward system, how to deliver labeled praise, and how to play the program s computer games. Conducting a pilot study evaluating effects of a mindfulness-based yoga intervention on emotion regulation and attention in kindergarten and first grade students at a charter school in the Bronx. December Department of Human Development Child Witness and Cognition Lab Undergraduate Research Assistant Supervisor: Stephen Ceci, Ph.D. Designed several experiments under PhD candidate Amelia Hritz investigating the effect lying and making a false accusation has on a child s memory of the event, interviewed test subjects, and collected and interpreted data. Conducted trials for a study under PhD candidate Jeffrey Valla exploring the accuracy of face-based personality judgment, analyzed results, and researched literary sources for evidence to support the results. TEACHING EXPERIENCES: APSY-GE 2658: Individual Counseling: Practice I (Instructor) This is the first part of the two part-experiential laboratory course: Students participate in small group laboratory experiences utilizing simulation, modeling, micro-counseling, and related foundational counseling skills in an experiential learning base. Students learn basic communicating skills necessary in interviewing, counseling, & other helping relationships; these skills apply to a wide range of professional counseling with children, adolescents & adults. APSY-UE 0025: Research Methods in Applied Psychology I (Course Assistant) The course offers an overview of diverse research designs and essential components of research methods, including: formulation of questions and hypotheses, identification of variables and operational definitions, sampling, data collection, and basic statistical and psychometric techniques. : HD 1840: Six Pretty Good Books (Undergraduate Teaching Assistant) The goal of the course is to provide students entering the Department of Human Development with a foundational course in the integrative social sciences, focusing on disciplinary similarities, and differences in constructs, assumptions, values, and methods, that social scientists employ when analyzing findings and arguments. Led seminar discussions with fifteen freshmen students about the six popular psychology books read throughout the course.
