2 Why is it important to manage our time effectively? What is meant by time management? How to manage our time effectively & overcome procrastination?(to be continued in the next presentation) 2
3 Developing effective strategies for managing our time is important to - balance the conflicting demands of time for study, leisure and other activities & - balance the variety of roles we play in our life 3
4 One of the most common complaints on college campus is stress. Stress comes in many forms, and some manifestations include: anxiety, sleep disturbances, appetite disturbances,, low selfesteem, inability to concentrate, and more. Most people experience eustress (mild to moderate stress), which is manageable and not necessarily negative, as it can act as a motivator and energizer. However, distress (high levels of stress) is a serious problem that can result in medical and/or social problems. 4
5 Students will encounter many stressful situations during their college years. Sometimes it may seem that there isn't enough time to do everything that they need to. This can lead to a buildup of stress. Successful time management can work to reduce stress in many situations. 5

7 Effective Time management helps us attain: Predictability Sense of purpose Empowerment 7
8 Predictability According to research, we humans have a primal fear of the future when we don t know what s going to happen. But schedules help us deal with that anxiety by structuring an otherwise shapeless future. Having a schedule reduces ambiguity about future work. 8
9 Second, time structure gives us a sense of purpose. According to research, people who structure their time are more likely to have a sense of purpose in life and are less prone to anxiety and hopelessness. 9
10 Third, time structure empowers us. Time flies but you re the pilot When people feel more in control and manage to stay on top of things, they re much less stressed out and more satisfied with their lives. The more you realize you are in charge, the more you live your life on your own terms. 10
11 Putting off the task at hand is an effective way of regulating low mood. Avoid the task, avoid the bad mood. while A real mood boost comes from doing what we intend to do the things that are important to us Why? Lack of motivation Skill deficits Fear of failure 11
12 the first step in stopping procrastinating is to recognize that you're doing it "victim" mindset 12
13 5 Statements to Answer 1. I often find myself performing tasks that I had intended to do days before. 2. When planning a meeting, I make the necessary arrangements well in advance. 3. I generally return s and phone calls promptly. 4. I find that jobs often don't get done for days, even when they require little else except sitting down and doing them. 5. Once I have the information I need, I usually make decisions as soon as possible. 6. When I have something difficult to do, I tell myself that it's better to wait to do it until I'm feeling more inspired. 7. I usually have to rush to complete tasks on time. 8. I usually accomplish all the things I plan to do in a day. Not like me at all Not like me Neither like me or not Like me Very like me 9. I usually start a task I'm given shortly after I'm given it. 10. When deadlines are approaching, I often waste time by doing other things. 11. I often have a task finished sooner than necessary. 12. When preparing for a meeting, I am seldom caught having to do something at the last minute. 13. I often delay starting tasks that I have to do. 14. When faced with a huge task, I figure out what the first step is so that I can get going. 15. I frequently say "I'll do it tomorrow". 13
14 15-30 You're a procrastinator, and it's not something to be proud of. It means that you miss deadlines and waste a lot of time. As a result, your boss is not getting from you what you're capable of delivering, and he or she is probably very frustrated with this. 16 Time management methods involve finding ways to work more efficiently, so as to maximize one's use of time A variety of techniques and tools are typically used for this purpose. Action planning is fundamental in time management. 16
