2 mehealth for ADHD is a team-oriented approach where parents and teachers assist healthcare providers to deliver the best care to children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD. There are 2 key stages in the ADHD care process: Assessment which determines if the child meets criteria for ADHD and may benefit from treatment. Treatment carefully and quickly determining the correct medication and dosage for a child and then monitoring the effectiveness of the drug and any side effects that may develop over time. Introduction Both steps in this process require input from parents and teachers. Providing the best care to ADHD patients depends on receiving information about the child s home and school behavior. During assessment, parents and teachers each complete rating scales reporting on the child s behavior at home and school. Once the treatment has started, parents and teachers will be asked to fill out additional rating scales from time to time to determine the effectiveness of the treatment. These follow-up scales are important to complete in a timely manner so that any deterioration in symptoms or side effects can be detected quickly. The rating scales are brief and simple to complete. mehealth for ADHD provides all services in a secure, privacy protected environment. This manual will instruct you on how to use mehealth for ADHD.

Activating your account Activating and your logging account in and (continued) logging in If, however, you already have activated your account, this is where you would begin. Page 4

5 To activate your account, use the Activation Code from the Parent Welcome Letter that was sent to you, and fill in the form. When complete, click the Register button. Page 5

6 When you first log in, you will come to the My Child page. This page contains basic information about any children you have registered in mehealth for ADHD. If at any time you need to add additional children to your account, simply click the Add a Child link and enter the activation code from the letter you receive. There is no need to create an additional account for yourself. Child Information To access detailed information about a child, click on his or her name. This will take you to the information page for that particular child. Four main areas of information are displayed: Care Information, Physician Feedback Requests, Teacher Information, and Physician Information. Page 6

7 ! One of the most important tasks you must complete is inviting a teacher to participate. A teacher s input is necessary in order for your child s doctor to receive the most accurate description of your child s ADHD symptoms. To invite a teacher, go to the child s information page that you want to add a teacher to and click the Invite a Teacher button. Teacher Information Next, enter the teacher s name and address. If you would like the teacher to be able to communicate with your child s doctor using the mehealth for ADHD message center, check the box next to Communication Settings. If not, leave it unchecked. 8 After you click the Add Teacher button, the Teacher Welcome letter is created: Teacher Information (continued) The Teacher Welcome Letter contains all the information the teacher will need to create an account on mehealth for ADHD. You may print the letter and give it to the teacher or, if you entered the teacher s address, you may the letter. We understand that your child might have multiple teachers and at times you might need to make some changes too. This system is flexible enough to accommodate those changes. For example, you can add additional teachers or when your child progresses from one grade to another, you might need Page to 8 deactivate the previous teacher and invite a new one.

9 Teacher Information (continued) If you would like to change the communication settings for a particular teacher, click on the Yes or No. The current permission is displayed, so clicking Yes will change the permission to No. You can change the permission as often as you like. To deactivate a teacher, simply click the X in the box containing the teacher s name you want to deactivate. The teacher will then be removed from your child s account. You can send the teacher a message using the mehealth for ADHD message center by clicking the link under the Permission settings. For more information on the mehealth for ADHD message center see page 11. Page 9

10 The first time you log into your account, or add a new child, you will be asked to fill out some different forms. The three rating scales used in mehealth for ADHD are: 1. Developmental Questionnaire: this form asks questions about you and your child s medical/psychological history. You will only fill this form out once per child. 2. Vanderbilt Assessment Scale: this form ask questions about your child s behavior. You will only fill this form out once per child. 3. Vanderbilt Follow-up Scale: this form also asks questions about your child s behavior. It is most commonly used while the child is being treated for their ADHD. The number of Vanderbilt Follow-up Scales you fill out can vary and is determined by your child s physician. For example, you may fill out this form once a week, or once a month. Rating Scales Any scales that need to be filled out will appear in blue and are located in the Physician Feedback Requests box. The scales that are gray in color have already been filled out. To fill out a form, simply click on the link for that particular form. Page 10

11 Rating Scales (continued) This is an example of the first page of the Vanderbilt Assessment Scale. To fill out the scale, simply click on the answer that best describes your child. Be sure to answer all of the questions. The Developmental Questionnaire is a longer form and will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. The Vanderbilt Assessment Scale and any subsequent Vanderbilt Follow-up Scales should take about 5 minutes to complete.! Any time a rating scale needs to be completed, you will receive an from the mehealth for ADHD system reminding you that it is time to log on and complete the rating scale. Page 11

12 One of the features of mehealth for ADHD is the secure message center. The message center gives you easy access to the addresses of your child s physicians and teachers while at the same time keeping your address private. To access the Message Center, click on the Message Center tab located on the top of the page. Portal Features: Message Center When you receive a new message in your inbox, the mehealth for ADHD system will send you an to the address on record for your account telling you that you have messages waiting for you. 13 To read a message, click on the subject line. You may sort the messages by From, Subject, or Date by clicking on the appropriate heading. To delete a message click on the X. To send a message, click on the Compose Mail link. Portal Features: Message Center (continued) Then select the child you would like to send an about. Next, select who you would like to send the message to: physicians, teachers, or everyone. Finally, type your message and click the Send Message button Page 13

14 Portal Features: Message Center (continued) Portal Features: Additional Forms In the event you need to print a paper copy of a Vanderbilt form, mehealth for ADHD has several forms available for you to download and print: Vanderbilt Parent Initial Assessment Vanderbilt Parent Follow Up Vanderbilt Teacher Initial Assessment Vanderbilt Teacher Follow Up To access these forms, click the Forms tab on the top of the page. You can update your personal information by clicking the My Account link located at the top right of the web page. Page 14

16 You and your child s teachers are now ready to collaborate with your child s physician in providing important information that is key to managing your child s ADHD. By looking at the teacher information box at the bottom left of your information page, you will be able to see if your child s teacher has completed the necessary rating scales. If the rating scales are not completed, you may need to prompt the teacher to do so. Summary While you do your part and the teachers do theirs, the system begins to combine both sets of information into clinical reports. These reports will assist your child s physician in adjusting the care plan as needed. Your use of mehealth for ADHD helps ensure that your child s ADHD care is optimized.
