6 Page 6 Purpose of Strategic Objectives Describe how UNITAID will contribute to the long-term goals of the global health community; they also act as: A clear statement of intent to achieve market and public health impact in key areas; An invitation to partners (including donors, implementers, industry, and country-level actors) to collaborate on specific efforts; and A signal to the market to orient availability, formulation, quality, pricing, and sustainable access to health products for HIV/AIDS and its co-infections, TB, and malaria in resource-limited settings.
7 Page Call for Letters of Intent (LOIs) "Open" Call for LOIs consistent with 6 strategic objectives While the call is "Open", there is great interest in LOIs for market interventions that improve access to medicines used in HIV, TB, and malaria: SO3: Increase access to emerging medicines and/or regimens, as well as new formulations, dosage forms, or strengths of existing medicines that will improve the treatment of HIV/AIDS and co-infections such as viral hepatitis SO4: Increase access to artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs) and emerging medicines, including paediatric formulations, that in combination with appropriate diagnostic testing will improve the treatment of malaria SO5: Secure supply of second-line TB medicines, and increase access to emerging medicines and regimens that will improve treatment of both drug-sensitive and multi drug-resistant TB
