FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO OVERCOME AIDS, AND WE ARE PLAYING A KEY PART IN THE GLOBAL EFFORT TO REACH ZERO CHASING ZERO EXISTS TO ENABLE INDIVIDUALS AND COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE WORLD TO THRIVE, AS THE EFFECTS We work alongside partners in rural communities to improve access to lifesaving HIV treatment and care for the 34 million people living with HIV today. Within this we are concentrating on improving services to pregnant women living with HIV to help achieve an HIVfree generation. keeping parents alive and families together. But there are currently around nine million people living with HIV who have limited or no access to this lifesaving treatment and care, the majority of which are living in rural sub Saharan Africa. As access to healthcare services in these parts of the world have been improving, the number of AIDSrelated deaths has been falling. The number of children born with HIV has also been decreasing, and today we have the opportunity to build a world free of AIDS. One fun way that you can support families and children suffering from the effects of HIV and AIDS is to host an ice cream party. COMPANY, A FUN VENUE, AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO SAVE LIVES AND HEY PRESTO A GREAT TIME HAD BY ALL! HOPEFULLY BY THE TIME YOU REACH THE END OF THIS BOOKLET YOU WILL HAVE PLENTY OF HELPFUL TIPS AND BAGS OF INSPIRATION TO GET OUT 5 STEPS TO an awesome PaRTy THERE S NO RIGHT OR WRONG WAY TO HAVE AN ICE CREAM PARTY, YOU CAN LET 1 DATE AND TIME Getting a date and time in the diary helps to get the ball rolling. 2 VENUE AND THEME It is good to decide what type of event you want to run and the number of people you expect to attend. Once you have venue a living room, a pub or coffee shop, a church or village hall, Student s Union etc. Setting the vibe is the fun part! We suggest that you charge an entry fee for the evening, or accept donations throughout. WHY DID YOU WANT TO THROW A PARTY? The people of London may be very connected to what s going on in the world but it s very easy to ignore the problems and get on with our own busy lives. I felt the need to make people aware of the cause by putting on an ice cream event. I hosted it at Kahaila, a great communityfocused café, and we just wanted people to have a good time and enjoy the music. WHAT ENTERTAINMENT DID YOU PUT ON? We had two acoustic acts performing, along with card games, drinks, and of course ice cream. HOW DID YOU PROMOTE THE EVENT? I promoted it through Facebook, posting well as an event page. I also posted regularly on Twitter, whilst Kahaila did the same. Word of mouth, ing around a few churches and texting everyone in my phone book were the other ways I promoted the event. DID YOU SHARE MUCH ABOUT THE WORK OF CHASING ZERO? Yes I did, we had a little speech in between our two musical acts. I felt it went really well, and I m sure the second time around it will be even better! ANY TOP TOPS FOR FUTURE PARY THROWERS? Make sure the venue you have booked out has a freezer!
