18 Conclusions Most children exposed to HIV often do not reach the health care facilities, where care is provided If community is not involved, inequalities in HIV prevention and care for children are sustained Community resource persons contribute to bridging the gap between communities & health care facilities
19 Recommendations Prioritize needs of children in the AIDS response Scale up access to prevention (such as PMTCT) and treatment Facilitate health facilities to work closely with community structures to enhance paediatric HIV prevention Invest in taking away barriers by supporting peer-support for adolescents, and economic empowerment of (young) women
