When we were introduced to AIPAC a few years later, we finally had an outlet to turn our sadness, anger and frustration into a call for information and action. Since then, we have been so impressed with AIPAC s work to diligently, effectively and continually educate members of Congress on issues related to the United States and Israel. Maddie and Jeff Carmel Making a Sustainable Difference In the summer of 2014, as Hamas rockets rained down on Israel, our six Israeli grandchildren came to stay with us. When discussing the situation in Israel we were surprised by their confident response that Israel is the safest country in the world, Because HaShem protects us, (but thank G-d for the IDF and Iron Dome). Our beloved children and grandchildren are unabashedly proud of the State of Israel, as are we. It is for them and all the generations to follow that we are committed to investing in a secure future for Israel. When we first visited Israel in 1981, we were awed by its ancient history while amazed by its modern advances. Our love and passion for the Jewish Homeland was ignited as never before, and we have returned many times since. Our hope for our legacy commitment is that the same reverence and wonder will be felt for generations to come. 5 PLANNED GIVING NEWS Charitable IRA Rollover Becomes Permanent Do you have retirement assets? Are you over 70? Then you need to know that Congress has made the IRA Charitable Rollover Act PERMANENT! Congress has made permanent a tax break on charitable donations from individual donor s retirement accounts. This provision allows individuals 70 ½ and older to donate up to $100,000 in IRA assets to a qualified charitable organization. A Rollover gift to a charitable organization from an individual s IRA can count toward the annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) required by the IRS. Moreover, the IRA charitable rollover is made directly to the charity and not included in a donor s adjusted gross income. By reducing taxable income, the provision can help donors avoid or reduce tax implications. You can either satisfy up to $100,000 of the charitable portion of a Minyan gift using this IRA distribution or you can consider establishing an AIEF Endowment Fund. RETIREMENT PLAN ASSETS: WORTH MORE AS A CHARITABLE GIFT Without smart planning, up to 70 percent* of your remaining retirement account assets could be lost to income and estate taxes.
