1 Calendar of HIV/AIDS-related Events in Asia and the Pacific ****** Volume XIX, April 2008 The Calendar of HIV and AIDS-related Events is produced every quarter by the HIV/AIDS Clearinghouse, UNESCO Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education. The Calendar updates and shares information about forthcoming events related to HIV and AIDS in the region among UNESCO colleagues, UNAIDS co-sponsors and key partners, including governments, donor agencies, NGOs, media, institutions, and private sector partners. The Clearinghouse receives financial support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the UNAIDS UBW Funds. Topics of the Conference include: how to reach the unreachable groups in reproductive health programmes; improving comprehensiveness and quality of reproductive health services; and youth development particularly related to sexual and reproductive health issues among adolescents among others. 2 Contact: Website: Melania Hidayat, UNFPA Indonesia at tel.: Ext Initiating Interactive Lesson Plans on HIV and AIDS Project 6 May 2008 in Hanoi, Vietnam 22 May 2008 in Kathmandu, Nepal This project aims to encourage and help teachers from a cross-section of subjects and teaching institutions to be confident and creative in generating lesson plans on HIV and AIDS. The project provides an opportunity for teachers to develop contextspecific lesson plans on HIV and AIDS, to teach these lessons, encourage HIV prevention and to be recognized for their achievements. Teachers were invited to participate in a lessons plan competition and to submit entries. Award ceremonies will take place to recognize the best lesson plans selected in Vietnam and Nepal. The course will expose participants to a wide range of issues relating to treatment, care and support and will examine participants own attitudes towards work in this field. This will include a thorough examination of Opportunistic Infections and Antiretroviral Treatments in HIV/ AIDS patients and will highlight the role of PHA in ensuring continuous care and treatment.
