1 Africa Centre HDSS, South Africa Map Location of ACDIS Site, South Africa: Monitored Population 93,540 Brief Description The Africa Centre is a joint project of the University of KwaZulu-Natal and the Medical Research Council of South Africa. It is situated in the municipality of Mtubatuba, in the rural Umkhanyakude District of northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The Centre has a staff of 400, two-thirds of them local, working in its headquarters near Mtubatuba, 220km north of Durban, and its virology laboratory in Durban's Nelson R. Mandela Medical School. Total population in 2010 was 93,540 (Male 44,545; Female 48,995)
