Prior to 2007, blood cultures were processed by using the automated BacT/ALERT system. Since 2007, the BacT/ALERT 3D Microbial Detection System (biomérieux, Durham, North Carolina, USA) was used and the FA aerobic and FN anaerobic bottles processed according to the manufacturer's instructions.
