Toxicology data from studies on similar hydrocarbon mid-distillates indicate that lifetime application to the skin of mice resulted in low-level skin carcinogenicity response characterized by low tumour incidence and long latency. While normal handling is not likely to cause cancer in humans, skin contact and breathing of mists, fumes or vapours should be reduced to a minimum. Call a doctor immediately. (Aspiration may cause chemical pneumonia). Eye Contact : Flush eyes immediately with fresh water for at least 15 minutes while holding the eyelids open. If irritation persists, see a doctor. Skin : Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water. See a doctor if any signs or symptoms described in this MSDS develop or if any skin irritation occurs. Launder contaminated clothing. Inhalation : Move exposed person to fresh air. If breathing has stopped, apply artificial respiration. Call a doctor immediately. Note to physician : NIL SECTION 6 FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES Extinguishing Media : Extinguish/control agents are dry chemical, carbon dioxide (CO2) and foam. Water may be ineffective on the flames, but water should be used to keep fire-exposed container cool. Fire fighting instruction : Recommended to wear self-contained breathing apparatus Special Hazard : Heating increases fire and explosion hazard. SECTION 7 ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES Leak/spill : Eliminate all sources of ignition including internal combustion engines and power tools. Ventilate areas and avoid breathing vapour. Clean up small spills using appropriate techniques such as sorbent materials or pumping. Where feasible and appropriate, remove contaminated soil. Use and store only in cool, well ventilated area. - Keep container closed. - Do not heat, weld or drill container. - Replace cap or bung. - Empty container still contains hazardous explosive vapour or liquid. - Do not use container for other purpose such as storage of water, etc. CAUTION : Do not use pressure to empty drum or explosion may result. Reports in the literature conclude that long-term exposure to jet fuels/kerosene may result in changes in: 1). The incidence and prevalence of psychiatric symptoms 2). Psychological tests and 3). Electroencephalogphy (EEG) The test to measure the activity of brain wave. These studies were conducted in specific work situations where there were exposures to jet fuels/kerosene. We have reviewed these studies and it is our opinion that the work situations are too complex and the analytical methods that brain damage are too imprecise to state with scientific certainty that either the condition occurs or that it was due to the type of material discussed in this MSDS. Since this product contains chemicals which are similar to those used in the work situation discussed above, it should be able handled strictly in accordance with the instructions of the product label and in this MSDS in order to minimize the occurrence of any adverse health effects.
