Eczema is a recurring non-contagious inflammatory skin condition that affects around one in three people during their lifetime. You should also prevent your skin from becoming dry by regularly moisturising with an emollient. The most common skin allergy is contact dermatitis (type of eczema), which causes an inflammatory reaction. This occurs when your skin comes into contact with something (either an allergen or irritant) that causes it to become red and inflamed. Allergens can be food, drugs or environmental factors (dust mites, moulds, pet dander). Irritants include soap, household cleaners, fragrances and metals within jewelry. Whether allergen or irritant, if you can identify the trigger, you are best to discontinue that contact.
