Khiraiya and our faculties who have given us a great guidance regarding industrial visit and also importance of the same for 1 st year students. We are especially thankful to respected authority of AMUL DAIRY Pvt. Ltd. for giving the permission to take visit at their premises and also thankful to their OSD - Public Relation, Mr. S. S. Sundaran, to provide proper guidance, practical based learning and technical knowledge to the students. 3

4 GENERAL INFORMATION Amul Dairy Pvt. Ltd. is one of the biggest dairy in Asia. It is situated Anand, Gujarat. Amul group makes total 236 food products like fresh milk, amul ghee, Ice Cream, Chocolate, Amul Shrikhand, Amul Masti Dahi etc. 4

5 PURPOSE OF VISIT Our main purpose of this visit is to familiarize the students of 1 st semester with industrial environment and to get practical knowledge of mechanical engineering field. Students would know about various types of machineries, departments of industry, quality aspects of the product, inspection criteria, safety rules, production process, marketing aspects etc. of the industries. They would also know about how biggest industry can run. 5

6 WHAT WE LEARNT? On 22 nd February, 2018 (Thursday) at 2:00 p.m. we reached at AMUL DAIRY Pvt. Ltd. Anand, Gujarat. Key Points: - 1. Establishment of Amul Group: They have shown us a Short movie which is related to establishment of the Amul group as well as the vision of Amul group and also various manufacturing process to make milk and other product. 2. Boiler: Boiler is used to generate steam which is used in process to pasteurized the milk for the product. 3. Laboratory testing machine This machine is used to identify How much quantity of fat, calcium, protein, iodine, potassium, phosphorus and vitamins B2 and B12 contain by milk. 4. Conveyer system Conveyer system is used to transport raw material and process material from one place to another place automatically. 5. Automatic packaging machine This type of machine is used to make a package of milk like 250ml, 500ml, and 1ml. 6

7 Step by Step process of Amul milk Amul milk is pasteurized milk. Chilled milk is received from chilling center from villages. In Amul dairy they collect milk from 13,000 villages about 26 lakes litters of milk per day. After collecting milk Amul dairy laboratory check the fat & SNF of the milk. After collecting, Checking & Conducting the laboratory test the pasteurized machines for pasteurization of milk. Here the milk is heated for 15 second. After that it is cooled at 4 degree Celsius. Now in this milk necessity fat & SNF are added packed in pouches of 250ml, 500ml, and 1ml. The packed are kept in the basket & each basket contains 20 Pouches. After the milk pouches are taken to the cold storage with the capacity of holding 4500 with the temperature of 8 to 10 degree Celsius. 7

10 CONCLUSION Through this visit, students gained information and practical knowledge about various manufacturing process of the different milk products. They also became aware about safety procedure to be followed during the manufacturing process of milk product. They got the knowledge about various personal protective equipments and its use. They also got aware about difficulties faced during the manufacturing process and how to solve it. They were also known about how to get more productivity with the available resources. Students get knowledge about startups (entrepreneur ship). About 61 students benefitted from this visit as they got chance to discuss with assistant engineers working at the unit. 10
