5 Pushing (tui fa): rationale Simple technique Usually along a meridian Apply over clothes, sheet or skin (with lubricant) Use thumb, fingers palm, palm heel, knuckles or elbow. Entice Qi to move, relaxes patient, opens channels brisk & light Clear & dredge channels stronger & deeper. Endeavour College of Natural Health 5

7 Pushing (tui fa): mechanics Have the finger, palm or elbow exert force on a certain part and make one-way, rectilinear movements, pushing straight in a single direction In operating, the finger, palm and elbow should attach closely to the body surface Exertion of force should be steady at a slow and even speed, then step by step from gentle to hard, no violence Endeavour College of Natural Health 7

12 Tips: Pushing (tui fa): demo & practice Think of planning wood or ironing. When using palm Tui fa keep your attention on PC8. Line your PC8 up with the channel you are working on. 20 Tips: Wiping (ma fa): demo & practice Keep your spine straight and your shoulders relaxed. Be gentle, even and rhythmic. Do not be too superficial with ma fa. 22 Scrubbing (ca fa): rationale Applied to bare skin with herbal massage medium Woodlock musculoskel etal problems Talcum powder resolve damp Toasted sesame oil strengthen Spleen & muscles Can also be performed through the towel/cloth This technique produces incredible heat Using minor thenar eminence will make the skin scorching hot. 23 Scrubbing (ca fa): mechanics Whole palm Ca fa Apply medium to patient s back. Place hand on one side of BL channel Pull hand up and down back (no downward pressure) Repeat 10 times 100 cycles/min) Minor thenar muscle & ulnar side of finger Ca fa Apply medium to patient s sacrum. Use ulnar side of hand. Scrub forwards & backwards over sacrum. Repeat 10 times or until skin feels scorching hot. Endeavour College of Natural Health 23

30 Tips: Scrubbing (ca fa): demo & practice Think of polishing a huge wooden table. Keep your hand in contact with the skin at all times. Start gently and slowly and increase your speed. Make the backwards and forwards movement big and straight. Do not press downwards. Let the drive come from your shoulder Apply about 10 times until the area is hot.
