Vitamin B and Cubital Tunnel Question Posted by keithweb /06/22 07:48 I've been researching cubital tunnel all evening and I found several sites to claim that vitamin b cures the symptons associated with cubital tunnel has anyone ever tried vitamin b or other natural herbs to ease your symptons???? a friend of mine used vitamin b for carpel tunnel and she says it helped her greatly i don't want to start throwing my money away on useless drugs but if this has helped anyone, please let me know as soon as possible because i want to avoid any surgery keith Posted by hector /06/22 13:57 there are a few studies with B6 for nerve repair. I take it, not sure if it helps but its really cheap. Dont exceed 100mg a day as it is toxic at higher levels. Another one to look into is acetyl-l-carnitine. As with any supplement, consult a doctor before taking. Posted by lib /06/22 16:05 i took b12 and b complex from the start...even sent of a urine sample to have mma test for b12 all normal...ended up bilateral surgery... cant hurt to take it though! Posted by conniestulz /06/25 04:26 Hello Keith 1 / 11

I have taken Vit B for years and yes it helps Carpel T But my doctor says that there are not any natural herbs to relieve Cubital T Do you have Carpel T too? I have Carpel T as well along with several other problems I use a computer 12 hours a day on my job and it has caused neck, shoulder, elbow and wrist problems My doctor says my nerve in my elbow is the worst at this point but the Carpel T is causing the extreme pain in my wrist Connie Stulz Posted by nj /07/10 22:03 Did same research. I actually know a doc that specializes in alternative health. ( the site is neat, it gives anecdotes on each product. Also talked with hand surgeons and neurosurgeons on the subject. Most doctors are not big believers in overdosing on vitamins. Neurologist recommended Folic Acid. Hand surgeon recommended B complex, but wasn't against taking 100mg. Does it work? Could it be a placebo effect? A mind is a powerful thing. BTW, I take 100 mg of B-6 daily. Posted by pmb /07/12 04:33 I am taking 400mg of B-6 a day and YES it is helping me. I got sick a month ago and stopped ALL the meds that I was taking ( decongestant + B6 ) and I saw a HUGE differance when I stopped taking the B-6. At 1st, I thought I was just wasting my time taking the B6, but like I said, my other elbow that I have mild cubital tunnel signs in did begin to ache again. When I re started the B6 I found relief, so for "" ME "", yes, it helps very very very mild symptons + the carpel tunnel symptons too!!! Best, Phyllis 2 / 11

Posted by pmb /07/12 05:09 You Said: >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Does it work? Could it be a placebo effect? A mind is a powerful thing. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> No Offense Intended but The Placebo effect is confused by researchers with Patient Prayer and simply the body healing itself!!! We have hundreds of folks in our area being treated with Placebo antibiotics everyday and they all go around sick for months at a time until the body finally heals itself or just a simple healing by God's mercy... And because our health insurance companies are allowed to dictate to our doctors, illness such as Sinus Infections Broncitious Ear Infections and many other illness are only treated with Placebo's... Hint, any med than you can get for 3 or 4 dollars is a Placebo, As for Generics???? Yes they may be the SAME ingredients but they have reduced the percentage of the drug that actually helps our symptoms. Example: a decongestant generic has 1%pseudoephedmine and the brand name has 90%... Best, Phyllis Posted by jimrothrock3-2009/07/22 04:44 Did the B6 keep you out of surgery? I'll give anything a shot to avoid surgery 3 / 11

Jimmy3 Posted by 6cooper /08/02 05:02 I have not read anything about B-6 helping Did this prevent you from having surgery? I want to avoid surgery if you have any other ideas. Coop Posted by golfer /08/22 20:44 I don't know whetherb6 is helpful or not, but my orthopedic doctor consulted with me this week about my cubital tunnel problem, he suggested taking it. I've started but it is too soon to tell it is helpful. BTW - he recommended surgery first thing. I'm dragging my feet (elbow?) about it so he suggested a second opinion. My symptoms are annoying, long standing (one year), and got worse after I played a game of golf two weeks ago. I won't do that again any time soon! Also, after I more or less insisted, he prescribed a couple of weeks of physical therapy. I'm working on everything I can think of to avoid the surgery he described - the one with the long recovery time! Golfer Posted by pmb /10/06 05:22 Hi Golfer I was just wondering how you were doing I hope you have still been able to aviod surgery. Phyllis 4 / 11

Posted by golfer /10/06 16:38 Thanks for asking...i've been having physical therapy 2x's a week for about 2 months and it IS helping. The tingling has virtually stopped! There is numbness remaining in my little finger but mostly gone from ring finger. I don't know how much longer I'll be referred for PT - but I think, through this month. I know they want to see continuing improvement. Right now, I think it is on a plateau. BUT, if I had to quit now and the numbness was all that bothered me, I would be OK with it. My therapist wants me to start doing a bit of golf(easy, short club stuff). I went out once - and it was OK. BUT, I'm pretty sure that if I did full swings and hit divots - I'd reinjure my elbow. So...I'm very hesitant to "tempt fate!" I love golf - but I love my elbow/hand more! Fortunately golf is an option for me. It is not like my livelihood depends upon it - like some of the musicians, etc. So, you can see, I'm pretty encouraged about avoiding surgery. In fact - that is way out of the picture. Thanks for you interest. Golfer Posted by 9ybeth /10/29 03:04 My doctor has suggested Vitamin B and I too am eager for positive results. Beth Posted by pmb /11/28 06:39 Did you ever give B-6 a try It's been helping me thus far + I'm watching certain things that I do now Posted by BrendaB /11/28 23:59 5 / 11

Trying B12 here. I've heard good things with it as well. Like I've seen in this thread, it can't hurt! I have been taking it for about 2 weeks - don't notice anything different, but gonna stay on it and see. :-) Brenda Posted by cindy /11/29 17:23 Hi all, Vitamin B complex is helpful to the nervous system. It's just like calcium is helpful to our bones. My personal view is if you have a problem with your nerves, it just makes good sense to take a vitamin B complex. So every day, normal dose, long-term use, supplement of vitamin B complex. B-6: Some doctors recommend taking vitamin B6 in excess, for a short duration, to help with numbness - correction - to help with symptoms - caused by nerve compression. The high dose is in conjunction with stopping whatever activity is causing the nerve problem. My gp doctor had me try vitamin B6 at 100 mg a day. He did tell me that I was to take the b-6 at this dose for a three months only because vitamin B6 taken in excess can cause damage to the nervous system. After one month of taking the vitamin B-6 at the higher dose I did notice a decrease in the numbness of my feet, but I never had a subsidence of the nerve pain / numbness in my arms / hands, even at the three months. B-12: Some people have a Vitamin B-12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause numbness in the hands and feet. The good thing about vitamin B 12 is that you cannot take too much. If you take an excess of-b12 it will be excreted in your urine. Vitamin B 12 deficiency is usually due to the inability of a person to absorb the b-12 vitamin in their stomach. If you want to try vitamin B 12, try it in a sublingual form (a formula designed to be taken under your tongue). This way it bypasses your stomach and goes directly into your blood system. If you're having symptoms caused by vitamin B12 deficiency, you should notice a difference within a day or two after taking the supplement. Also, your doctor can run a blood test to see if you have a vitamin B 12 deficiency. If it turns out you are vitamin B 12 deficient, the doctor might want you to do more than just taking an over-the-counter vitamin. The doctor might prescribe an injectable B12 shot. Hope this helps, Cindy Posted by pmb /12/02 02:31 Hummm,... I have NEVER heard or read anything about B6 helping with numbness. 6 / 11

Most doctors recommend B6 to relieve the PAIN that the pinched nerves cause - Weather by Carpal tunnel or cubital tunnel... If there was a cure all for Pain and numbness, LOL, LOL, I'd be taking it. But glad to hear that it has cured your numbness issues. cindy wrote: Some doctors recommend taking vitamin B6 in excess, for a short duration, to help with numbness caused by nerve compression. Posted by cindy /12/02 17:43 Hi Phylis (I hope I'm spelling that correctly) It's nice to finally 'talk' to you. I've read many of your post and watched your YouTube videos. I would like to start off by first saying thank you for posting the videos. They are really good and have helped a lot. You had me thinking when you posted that B6 is recommended for pain. I probably should edit my post to say that B6 is thought to help with numbness and pain or I guess I could just say that it is thought to help improve nerve function in general. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I did a quick Internet search to make sure that I didn't have the ideal that numbness is thought to be 'sometimes' helped by vitamin B6. Of course you can find a lot of conflicting information on the Internet, but what I found is that B6 is thought to help with the symptoms of carpal tunnel, cubital tunnel, which include pain and numbness. (sorry to any confusion I might have caused anyone). I was curious when you said that the B6 helps with your pain. Did that imply that you still have numbness? When my doctor tried me on the 100mg B6, my hands did not have improvement with numbness or pain. My feet had improvement, but I never had foot pain to start with, they were just numb. Does your doctor want you to continue with the B6? If so at what dose? My doctor (GP) had me wean back down to an over the counter B. complex only. Hope to chat with you soon! Cindy 7 / 11

Posted by BrendaB /12/03 02:10 pmb003 wrote: Hummm,... If there was a cure all for Pain and numbness, LOL, LOL, I'd be taking it. Hey Phyllis! I will continue with my B12 - can't hurt. Since I have what is classified as "severe neuropathy" I am on the max (recommended max) level of Lyrica. Numbness of course is not its target, but nerve pain issues. I can't function (pain sits between almost ER visit level) without it, 2-5 with it. I am facing more spine surgeries, so I will be on it for a while. Like you, if there is a "non" surgical cure, sign me up!!! :-) Brenda Posted by hector /12/03 02:36 cindy wrote: Hector, I really liked reading your second web site link. Cindy thanks- keep in mind that lef.org is a supplement company so they are a little bias but the fact that these suppliments are finding there way in to medical journal means that there is a glimmer of hope they they can help (and thats better than nothing). 10 Does your doctor want you to continue with the B6? If so at what dose? My doctor (GP) had me wean back down to an over the counter B. complex only. My gyn doctor recommended the B6 to me 20 years ago - B6 (600 mg daily ) plus magnesium ( 400 mg daily )is an excellant cure for PMS symptons. It takes care of PMS bloating, over eating, cramps, depression ( so on ) and even keeps the menstrual cycle regulated... Then around the same time, a lot of folks jumped on the B6 wagon to AVOID carpal tunnel surgery. So, NO - my hand surgeon did NOT recommend B6 I started back taking B6 on my own It helps ""me"" with the cubital tunnel pain + the carpal tunnel aching. But it has NOT helped with the numbness at all and I have never read anything about B6 helping with numbness either. The nerve has to heal for the numbness to disappear - or the nerve irratation has to be corrected and then still, the nerve has to heal for the numbness to disappear. Hope this answers the question PS My BEST advice to anyone taking vitamins - You need to see a doctor who practices Holistic Medicine too. These folks are more up to date on vitamins and treatments- So, you should never rely on your hand surgeon for vitamin advice because that is NOT his specialty!!! Posted by donnawise /01/25 04:46 I will give B6 a try I use to suffer from tendonities but the symptons are like cubital tunnel now Sure how my family doctor can recommend anything other than surgery Worried Sick Donna 10 / 11
