1 KRUUSE Wound Care 2016
2 KRUUSE Wound Care INTRODUCTION Importance of Correct Wound Care Managing wounds is a common practice in everyday small and large animal veterinary clinics and unfortunately very few, if any, animals will experience a wound-free life. Over the last few decades, there have been significant advances in our understanding of wound healing and since the early 1960 s, wound dressing technology has been an increasingly important factor in the healing process. It is imperative to note that correct wound dressing application can actively support the healing process by encouraging the wound to heal more efficiently with less functional deficit and scar tissue formation. Furthermore, different types of wounds require special individual treatment and needless to say, cannot be dealt with as a one size fits all scenario. In order to encourage a successful healing process, it is crucial to: Identify what type of wound the patient has Be aware of the several stages a wound experiences during the healing phase Understand the significance of a moist wound healing environment Apply the right combination of products KRUUSE Wound Care Range KRUUSE offers a comprehensive range of products that have been extensively tested by key opinion leaders, including internationally recognised Professor Derek C. Knottenbelt (BVM&S, DVM&S, Diplomate ECEIM, MRCVS Recognised RCVS and European Specialist in Equine Internal Medicine). Many products in the KRUUSE Wound Care portfolio are medically graded, similar to that of human medicine, but with modifications to make them more suitable for veterinary patients, such as additional bandage lines to fit various shapes, sizes and lifestyle/behaviour. Now veterinary practices can have easy access to a broad and comprehensive veterinary specific range that is logical, manageable and easy to understand and apply. QR Codes - Scan for more information This Wound Care catalogue also features a number of barcodes, otherwise known as QR Codes, to assist your veterinary team with correct application. Simply use your smart phone to scan the QR code using a scanning app, which can be easily downloaded for free in seconds from your preferred app store, if not already installed. Scanning these codes will conveniently direct you to video demonstrations that will provide further instructions on how to use a product and overall effective wound care management. Be sure to keep an eye out for these codes!

4 MOIST WOUND HEALING KRUUSE offers a range of products to support moist wound management better cosmetic outcome Moist Wound Healing easy to remove wound dressing heals up to 50% faster newly formed tissue remains intact Reduced risk of infection Benefits of Moist Wound Management The wound is not allowed to dry out, which results in continuous wound healing 24 hours a day The dressing supports a moist environment. Excess exudate is removed The exudate is absorbed into the primary and secondary dressing. Contact between wound and wound fluid is maintained The patient can benefit from the normal balance of healing factors during each phase of wound healing. Optimal function of cells and proteases responsible for healing is promoted Skin cells regenerate approximately twice the speed when kept moist compared to dry healing. Faster healing with a lower rate of infection is promoted The wound is protected by the retentive dressing, which prevents infection from the outside. More comfortable for the patient than traditional dressings Keeping the nerve ends hydrated in a wound reduces pain. Fewer bandage changes are required The dressing can be left on the wound for 3 to 5 days (depending on the wound status). Less scarring As a result of Collagen fibres aligning. Decreased cost for the total wound care The reduced number of dressing changes, need for sedation and bandage material decreases the total cost. Article written by Henrik Pedersen & Britta Albert (KRUUSE Product Managers) 2
