2 Thursday, October 14, 2004 Stanley Park Ballroom Topic 4:00 5:00 Novel Findings in Atopic Dermatitis: How To Maximize Treatments Atopic dermatitis (AD), a chronic inflammatory, severely itchy skin disease, with an increasing global prevalence affecting at least % of children but which may persist into adulthood, is believed to be the first step in the "atopic march" resulting in asthma and allergic rhinitis. The phenotype of the disease is viewed as the result of the interaction between environmental factors, defective skin barrier function and susceptibility genes resulting in immunological anddistal neurological abnormalities.
