2 Page 2 of 6 NUMERACY QUESTIONS 1. A patient is prescribed 0.6g of drug A to be given orally. Drug A is available in 200mg tablets. How many tablets would you administer for each dose? 2. Convert 725ml into litres. 3. Your patient requires 1.2mg of drug B to be taken orally. The drug is available as 200 microgram capsules. How many capsules would you administer for each dose? 4. A prescription has been written for 70mg of drug C to be given intramuscularly. The vial contains 1 ml of a 100mg/ml solution of Drug C. How many millilitres (mls) would you administer? 5. Your patient is prescribed 375mg of a drug D orally. The drug is supplied in liquid form as 150mg/5ml. How many millilitres (mls) would you administer? 6. Your patient is prescribed 15mg three times a day of drug E. Drug E is available in 5mg capsules. How many capsules will the patient take each day? 7. Convert 1200 micrograms into milligrams (mg)..
3 Page 3 of 6 8. Your patient has been prescribed 1000ml of fluid over 4 hours, the administration set delivers 15 drops per ml. Calculate the infusion rate in drops per minute. Please round your answer to the nearest whole number. 9. Your patient is prescribed 2.5 litres of fluid F to be administered over 24 hours. How many millilitres (mls) would you administer per hour? Please round your answer to 2 decimal places. 10. Your patient is prescribed drug G which is stocked in 40mg in 2ml vials. He requires 25 mg to be administered daily. How many millilitres (mls) would you administer for each dose? Please round your answer to 2 decimal places. 11. A patient is prescribed 200mg/kg/day of antibiotic H. The patient weighs 70kg. What is the total dose the patient requires per day in grams? 12. A patient is prescribed 600 micrograms of drug X by nebulizer. The medication is available as 400 micrograms/1ml. What volume in millilitres (mls) is required for the administration? 13. Convert 85mg to grams.
4 Page 4 of Your patient has consumed 2 cups of coffee (170 ml in each cup), 3 glasses of water (300 ml in each glass), 1 cup of soup (125ml), one dose of IV Paracetamol (50ml) and 1.5 litre of IV fluid. Calculate the total fluid intake in millilitres (mls). 15. A blood transfusion of 390ml is to be given via a blood administration set (20 drops/ml) over 5 hours. Calculate the infusion rate in drops per minute. Please round your answer to the nearest whole number.
