We will perform a meta-analysis on the associations of age adjusted standard deviation scores of early growth characteristics (gestational age, birth weight, infant s height and weight) with the risks of wheezing, wheezing frequencies and asthma in childhood. based on raw data or odds ratios obtained by adjusted multiple logistic regression models from participating cohorts. July 2011 September 2011 October 2011 December 2011 February 2012 April Contact cohorts send protocol, discuss participation with each cohort Answers form cohorts, data transfer agreement, final list of participating cohorts Start collecting data, formatting dataset Preliminary data analyses and agreement on the analyses protocol Final analyses and interpretation of findings Writing papers + report for CHICOS We will write the following paper: Early growth and childhood asthma symptoms in different European birth cohorts. Specification of data required: (list of variables to be agreed with the DNBC data manager) No. of individuals concerned: Outcome: Wheezing (yes/) and wheezing frequencies (1-3 episodes a year, wheezing >4 episodes a year) at age 1,2,3,4, 5-10 years Dr diagsed asthma at age 1,2,3,4,5-10 years Determinants: Birth weight, birth length, length 1 year, weight 1 year, length 2 years, weight 2 years or other weight and length measurements until age 2 year Covariates: Maternal age, BMI, education, history of asthma or atopy (eczema, hay fever or house dust mite allergy), smoking habits during pregnancy, tobacco smoke exposure early childhood, parity or number of siblings at time of birth, children s sex, gestational age, ethnicity, breastfeeding status, daycare attendance in the first year of life and pet keeping This will depend on your dataset.
3 Biological Specimens Are you applying for biological specimens? yes: Only a minimum quantity of blood necessary for the analyses in question will be handed out. Please te that DNA is t yet available from all participants. DNA must be extracted at Statens Serum Institut. from 1st sample quantity from 2nd sample quantity from 3rd sample quantity Please describe how your study design is adapted to make the best possible use of the biological specimens. Account for the feasibility of the analyses (requirements for transportation, treatment and storages must be taken into consideration). Supplementary Data Collection Sample analyses results Will you be collecting supplementary data/biological samples from cohort members, or will new analyses data be generated?
