1 Differentiation in lung and L.I. The main physiological function of the lung is in charge of breathing, supplements heart for blood circulation, and regulates the water metabolism. It s common manifestation as cough, asthma, sputum expectoration, chest pain, hemoptysis, celostomia, runny liquid nose, edema.

2 1-Lung Qi deficiency It refers to the lung Qi deficiency failure in opening and descending. Feeble cough and dyspnoea aggravated by movements, thin sputum, low voice, lassitude and fatigue, unwilling to speak, spontaneous sweating, liability to catch cold, pale face, pale tongue with white coating, deficient pulse. 1 It is the main pathogenesis that the lung Qi deficiency failure in opening and descending. 2 It is the main pathogenesis that the patient suffers feeble cough and dyspnoea, and thin sputum. 3 Lassitude and fatigue, unwilling to speak, spontaneous sweating, liability to catch cold, pale face, pale tongue with white coating, deficient pulse., 4 Feeble cough and dyspnoea, thin sputum, lower voice are the weak function of breath.

3 2-Lung Yin deficiency It refers to the lung Yin deficiency induces internal deficient heat. Cough with little sticky sputum or no sputum, or blood stained sputum, chest pain, hoarseness, dry throat, emaciated physique, red cheek, night sweating, five center heat, red tongue with little or no coating, thread rapid pulse; or accompanied with hypopnea and fatigue, lassitude. 1 lung Yin deficiency, internal deficient heat 2 Cough with little sticky sputum 3 dry throat, emaciated physique, red cheek, night sweating, five center heat 4 Cough dry, hemoptysis, chest pain and hoarseness 5 Hypopnea and fatigue, lassitude are due to both Qi and Yin deficiency.

4 3-Wind cold tightening the lung It refers to the wind cold evil invades the body surface, lung qi fails to open and descend. Cough with white thin sputum, or chest oppression and asthma, itching in the throat, cold aversion, mild fever, stuff nose or running liquid nose, or body pain without sweating, thin white coating, floating and tense pulse. 1 wind evil invades the body surface, lung qi fails to open and descend 2 以咳嗽, 痰液清稀和风寒在表之象并见为辨证依据 3 cold aversion, mild fever, stuff nose or running liquid nose, or body pain without sweating, thin white coating, floating and tense pulse. 4 有咳嗽, 痰清稀色白, 甚或胸闷气喘, 喉痒等为肺病的症状

5 4- Wind heat invading the lung It refers to the wind heat evil invading the lung and superficial areas. Cough with yellow thick sputum, turbid nasal discharge, sore throat, fever, mild aversion to cold, little thirst, red tip of the tongue with thin yellow coating, floating and rapid pulse. 1 the wind heat evil invading the lung and superficial areas. 2 Cough with yellow thick sputum, turbid nasal discharge, and superficial heat syndrome. 3 fever, mild aversion to cold, little thirst, red tip of the tongue with thin yellow coating, floating and rapid pulse 4 Cough with yellow thick sputum, and sore throat belong to lung problem.

6 5- Dryness invading the lung It refers to the dryness evil attacks lung and consumes the body fluid. Dry cough with little or no sputum, difficult to expectorate, even chest pain, bloody sputum, dry mouth, lips, nose and throat, scanty urine and constipation; or fever and mild aversion to cold, little sweating or no sweating, thin and dry coating with little moistened, floating rapid or tense pulse. 1 dryness evil attacks lung 2 lung symptoms and dryness 3 dry mouth, lips, nose and throat, scanty urine and constipation and dry cough with little or no sputum, difficult to expectorate, even chest pain, bloody sputum. 4 fever and mild aversion to cold, little sweating or no sweating, floating pulse

7 6- Heat retention in the lung It refers to the excessive heat is accumulated inside the lung. Cough with yellow thick sputum, dyspnoea and hyperpnoea, fanning nose; or chest pain, cough with foul pus and blood; or epistasis, hemoptysis; Accompanied with hectic fever, thirst with preference for cold drink, irritability, red face, constipation and yellow scanty urine, red tongue with yellow coating, slippery and rapid pulse. 1 Excessive heat is accumulated in the lung. 2 internal excess heat and lung symptom 3 hectic fever, thirst with preference for cold drink, irritability, red face, constipation and yellow scanty urine, red tongue with yellow coating, slippery and rapid pulse. 4 Cough with yellow thick sputum, dyspnea and hyperpnea, fanning nose; or chest pain, cough with foul pus and blood; or epistasis, hemoptysis.

8 7- Cold phlegm blocking the lung It refers to the turbid phlegm blocks in the lung. Cough and asthma with profuse white sticky sputum, oppressive chest, dyspnea and sputum rale in the throat, cold feeling in four extremities, pale tongue with white coating, soft and moderate or slippery pulse. 1 The turbid phlegm blocks in the lung. 2 Acute onset of cough and asthma with profuse white sticky sputum, as well as cold manifestation. 3 cold feeling in four extremities, pale tongue with white coating, soft and moderate or slippery pulse. 4 Cough and asthma with profuse white sticky sputum, oppressive chest, dyspnea and sputum rale in the throat

9 8- Phlegm retention blocking the lung It refers to the turbid phlegm obstructs in lung resulting in the reversed ascending of lung qi. Cough with profuse white sticky sputum, which is easy to be expectorated out, oppressive chest, even dyspnea and sputum rale in the throat, pale tongue with white greasy coating, slippery pulse. 1 The turbid phlegm obstructs in lung resulting in the reversed ascending of lung qi. 2 Cough with profuse white sticky sputum, which is easy to be expectorated out, and without cold or heat manifestation. 3 Cough with profuse white sticky sputum, which is easy to be expectorated out, oppressive chest, even dyspnea and sputum rale in the throat are due to lung problem.

10 ( 九 )Damp heat retention in Large Intestine It refers to the damp heat evil obstructs in L.I. resulting in the irregulation of transportation in L.I. Abdominal pain, dysentery with pus and beeding, tenesmus, or abrupt violent diarrhea with foul yellow stool, burning sensation in the anus, yellow and scanty urine, or thirsty, or fever, red tongue with yellow and greasy coating, soft rapid or slippery rapid pulse. 1 The damp heat evil obstructs in L.I. resulting in the irregulation of transportation in L.I. 2 dysentery or diarrhea and damp heat 3 Fever, thirsty, yellow and scanty urine, red tongue with yellow and greasy coating, soft rapid or slippery rapid pulse indicate internal damp heat. 4 有腹痛, 下痢脓血, 里急后重, 或暴注下泻等大肠病的症状

11 ( 十 ) Fluid insufficiency in Large Intestine It refers to the body fluid deficiency fails to nourish the Large intestine. Constipation with dry stool, or only one defecation in several days, or accompanied with foul smell, dizziness and blurred version, dry mouth and throat, red and dry tongue with thread and choppy pulse. 1 The body fluid deficiency fails to nourish the L.I. 2 Dry stool and body fluid deficiency failure in moistening the L.I. 3 Dry mouth and throat, red and dry tongue with thread and choppy pulse. 4 Constipation with dry stool, or only one defecation in several days-l.i. 5 Foul smell and dizziness due to reversed qi

12 ( 十一 ) Large Intestine collapse due to deficiency It refers to the Yang Qi deficiency fails to control L.I. Loose control of diarrhea, or incontinent defecation even prolapsed of rectum, slight pain in abdomen with the preference for hot compress, cold feeling in four extremities, pale tongue with white slippery coating, deep and weak pulse. 1 Yang Qi deficiency and incontinent defecation 2 Loose control of diarrhea and cold 3 slight pain in abdomen with the preference for hot compress, cold feeling in four extremities, pale tongue with white slippery coating, deep and weak pulse. 4 Loose control of diarrhea, or incontinent defecation even prolapsed of rectum due to L.I.

13 ( 十三 )Liver fire attacking lung It refers to the Liver fire attacks lungs and makes lungs failure in descending. Burning pain in the chest and hypochondrium, irritability and easy to be angry, headache and congestive eyes, intermittent cough, yellow and sticky sputum, even hemoptysis, restlessness and bitter in the mouth, red tongue with thin yellow coating, wiry and rapid pulse. 1 Liver fire burns lungs and makes lungs failure in descending. 2 Burning pain in the chest and hypochondrium, cough or hemoptysis and internal excessive fire. 3 Burning pain in the chest and hypochondrium, irritability and easy to be angry, headache and congestive eyes, intermittent cough, yellow and sticky sputum, even hemoptysis due to liver and lungs. 4 有烦热口苦, 舌红苔薄黄, 脉弦数等实火内炽之热象
