2 About 300 million people worldwide suffer from asthma symptoms, with 250,000 annual deaths attributed to the disease. 1 Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases among children. 2 The prevalence of asthma in different countries varies widely. 3 Asthma is a burden to the patient, family members and society. 1 1 World Health Organization. 4 Allergic rhinitis and asthma Most patients with asthma also have allergic rhinitis. 10% to 40% of patients with allergic rhinitis have asthma comorbidity. The ARIA (Allergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma) initiative aims to educate and implement evidencebased management of allergic rhinitis in conjunction with asthma worldwide. Allergic rhinitis is associated with reduced Quality of life () independent of asthma but does coexistent rhinitis add to the reduced associated with asthma? BousquetJ et al. 5 Study design A part of The Paediatric Asthma Gene Environment Study (PAGES) Quality of life () was determined in 553 children

7 Study methods Questionnaires: - Asthma Questionnaire - Children s Asthma Control Test (CACT) - The Paediatric Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (PAQLQ) Overall score and scores for three domains (Symptoms, Emotions and Activity). 7-point R. Likert scale (higher score -> better ) Allergic conditions including eczema, rhinitis and food allergies were self reported. Asthma severity was determined by the British Thoracic Society/SIGN Asthma Guideline
