5 Sudden Cardiac Arrest There are 28,000 Sudden Cardiac Arrests (SCAs) outside of hospitals each year in the UK referred to Emergency Medical Services. Target for Red 1 = 8 minutes Hypoxia can occur in around 4 minutes National survival rate of SCAs (no intervention) 8.9% Each minute someone is in cardiac arrest their chance of survival falls by up to 10%

6 If a defibrillator is used within an 8 minute window of opportunity: 75% chance of recovery

10 CFRs are volunteers who are trained by the Ambulance Service, to respond to emergency calls in their community in conjunction with SECAMB. As they respond in the local areas where they live and work they are able to attend the scene of an emergency within a few minutes, and often before the emergency service arrives. They are able to offer life-saving first aid further increasing the patient s chances of survival.
