Summary of my Activities and Future Plans My academic and research activities in the past, present and the future have and will always be connected to the clinical, practical and the developments of theory in music therapy. I have worked for many years abroad and have many international network and research collaborations. My doctoral dissertation (2002) was published all over the world and had a major impact on the topic of communication and cognition through music with girls with Rett syndrome. I was invited by most of the Rett syndrome organizations in the world in order to discuss my research findings, which had a big impact on the girls communicative and cognitive development. I later on began collaboration with a hospital in Bergen in the world s largest epidemiological research on Parkinson s disease. I received 40,000$ in order to test the influence of music therapy on this population. I am planning to continue this type of research in Israel. I continue to be active with the Israeli Rett syndrome association and other word wide Rett associations and am very frequently invited to present in conferences. My collaboration with a major international research group (including world renown researchers from England, Norway, S. Africa and Israel). We developed theory and research on Community. The budget for the 5 year project was 1,000,000$ and was funded by the Norwegian Research Council. The project was a basis for the publishing of first research and theory book in Community Music Therapy. The book was published after it was read by 3 blinded reviewers. The research took place during the years Since 2000 I am a member of an international research and development team from leading universities (University of Aalborg, Denmark, University of Oslo, University of Bergen, Temple University, USA, University of Melbourne, Brisbane University, Anglia Ruskin University, Jyvaskyla University (Finland) and several others. I serve as a consultant for development of masters and PhD programs. Since 2002-Present I serve as Editor of the most regarded journal in music therapy: Nordic Journal of. I plan to continue this position. From 2007-present I serve as a member of an international Research Consortium on which include countries such as: Norway, Denmark, Finland, Australia, USA, Belgium and Israel. The following are the topics the Consortium has worked on: Assessment tools in ; Development of topics of interest to the profession; discussions of research paradigms and design and their impact when researching population groups; Initiating research projects in different countries. 19
20 In 2011 I began as a Primary investigator in an international RCT research on Autism (includes researchers from universities in Norway, Austria, Israel, Australia, Korea, Brazil and USA). The research is investigating the effect and intensity of music therapy treatment with children with Autism. Funded by the Norwegian Research Council for the sum of 2,000,000Euro. The research will continue until the year In Israel we are collecting data and so far there is a PhD student and several master thesis that are included. In addition in 2012-present I began as a primary researcher in an international research on music therapy and Autism (Israel, Germany and Norway). The research will investigate qualitative relationships in music therapy. Funded by Helse Vest, Norway for the sum of $. The occupational therapy department at the university of Haifa were included in this research. Presently, I (University of Haifa) have began several collaborative research with two major hospitals in Israel. The research topics include: Pain and use of music, obesity and the effect of music, and music therapy in the neo-natal unit. My research projects include RCT, quantitative and qualitative perspectives. I plan to develop further the topic of Community, cultural based research with Youth at risk and other marginalized population groups. The following scientific book chapter and articles are in preparation: Scientific Book chapters: 1. Seung-A Kim & Elefant, C. Multicultural Considerations in Research. In B.
