2 Introduction Thanks so much for taking the time to consider this exciting opportunity to become a key player in the fundraising team here at Ambitious about Autism. Ambitious about Autism is the national charity for children and young people with autism. We provide services, raise awareness and understanding, and campaign for change. Our vision is to make the ordinary possible for children and young people with autism. We are driven by the belief that every child deserves an education that enables them to learn, thrive and achieve. This mission is important because children and young people with autism face enormous barriers due to a lack of understanding of their needs and a lack of specialist support and opportunities. Fewer than 1 in 4 school leavers with autism access education or training beyond school 90% of adults with autism remain entirely dependent on care or their families for the rest of their lives 99% want to work, but only 16% are in full-time employment Nearly half of all children with autism are illegally excluded from school or denied a full-time education. This is unjust and unacceptable. We are fighting to change this. We were founded 21 years ago by a group of passionate parents who wanted something better for their children. We started off as TreeHouse School in a borrowed room in the Royal Free Hospital in London. We have since grown to be Ambitious about Autism, increasing our scale and range of services, and changing outcomes for children and young people with autism everywhere. Our passion is as strong as ever, and while we re proud of our achievements, the need for us is more acute than ever. In fact, we need to do more, and we are about to embark on an ambitious strategy to significantly grow. This drive for growth and ambition to do more is felt equally strongly in the Fundraising team. We are an energetic, determined group of high-performing fundraisers all driven by the desire to change the world for children and young people with autism. We have an exciting mix of high-profile partnerships and events that this role will be responsible for coordinating. In September over 200 hardcore cyclists will ride from Manchester to London in the 5 th event of its kind. So far this event, supported by the high end cycling brand Rapha, has raised over 1m for our charity and last year saw Bradley 2
3 Wiggins take part. November is the month of our Night of Ambition; a gala dinner in the city attended by senior representative from the tech and comms industry, held in partnership with the TalkTalk Group. So far this successful partnership has raised 3m and now, alongside the annual dinner, we d like to take the concept of a Night of Ambition to the next level. We also have a strong base of supportive stakeholders that require cultivation and stewardship, together with the Major Donor officer, this role will be responsible for creating an exciting calendar of events to achieve those objectives. This role would suit someone who shares our energy and determination and is attracted by the idea of a team with big ambitions to grow. 4 Job description Job Title Events Fundraising Manager Team Fundraising Job Band Band 5: 31,542 to 40,003 (subject to job evaluation) dependent on skills and experience Reporting to Head of Partnerships Hours 35 Hours per week worked Monday to Friday Line Manages N/A Approved By (ELT MEMBER): Danae Leaman-Hill Date: 17 th January 2017 The Events Fundraising Manager role leads and manages special events (not challenge or community), including cultivation and stewardship events, for the Fundraising Team, which has a current income forecast of over 670,000 and an expenditure budget of 185,000. This area is vital for our unrestricted income target. It has grown over the last few years and is anticipated to grow further within the next few years. The role manages key relationships and partnerships around events with our corporate partners such as TalkTalk and Rapha. Events are also a key entry point for future donors to Ambitious about Autism. Role Purpose: To lead and project manage the Fundraising team s special events programme to grow and maximise income for Ambitious about Autism To provide excellent event management to existing activities such as the annual Night of Ambition event in partnership with TalkTalk and annual cycling challenge event with Rapha. To develop, with the Head of Partnership, and supported by the Major Donor Officer, a calendar of cultivation and stewardship events. To assist in the development of a new business portfolio. Key Accountabilities: Maximising income and relationships: Provide excellent account management and maximise opportunities with all special events, including our flagship annual Night of Ambition and the annual Rapha cycling challenge Design and deliver on all objectives to ensure that all special events are successful, which is likely to include marketing plans, recruitment/table sales, sourcing auction items, managing all stakeholders and meeting income/expenditure targets. Create and manage project plans to deliver successful outcomes. 4
5 Build a diverse portfolio of events working closely with the Head of Partnership on new business opportunities Ensure excellent donor care to all event participants and guests in our event programme and the continuation of relationships beyond their first event Work closely with the Digital, Media and Marketing team to produce materials and communication tools for events from design to delivery, including online/social media Ensure that key fundraising messages are accurately reflected in all event communications developed both inside and outside of Fundraising. Apply Ambitious about Autism s brand identity guidelines to ensure maximum fundraising effectiveness and to support events staff in their interpretation and application Brief and manage external suppliers, ensuring all suppliers work to agreed Terms and Conditions Increase awareness and understanding of the needs of children and young people with autism and the organisations objectives through Events fundraising Finance and reporting: Design and manage budgets for each event, monitoring performance continually and successfully managing risks as they arise. Work with the Head of Partnerships on managing the annual and three yearly events budgets, and produce financial forecasts. Assist in the development of quarterly reforecasts and reports Provide regular reports on Event activities for the Head of Partnerships. Other duties: Represent Ambitious about Autism to external audiences Build excellent working relationships across the organisation, in particular with teams who help to deliver Events, including Communications & Finance Operate within Charity Law and Data Protection legislation and adhere to the Institute of Fundraising Codes of Practice Provide support to other fundraising colleagues as required Attend and work at events which may include some evening and weekend hours Ensure accurate and accessible record keeping of all activity and relationships and effective use of database ( Raiser s Edge) Undertake any other appropriate responsibilities that may arise Safeguarding and Safety: Ensure risk assessments and emergency plans are in place and reviewed for all events and activities Ensure safe working practices Ensure that safeguarding incidents, medication errors, other incidents and accidents errors are appropriate reported Key working relationships: Third party event stakeholders and suppliers as well as working group event staff members at TalkTalk and Rapha Fundraising colleagues External Affairs, Services and Finance teams CEO and Executive Leadership team where appropriate Trustees and Honorary roles where appropriate 5

7 PERSON SPECIFICATION Role and Band Competencies Essential Desirable Education Levels & Qualifications Degree level education (or equivalent) Membership of the Institute of Fundraising or similar body Specific Knowledge, Experience & Technical Skills Substantial experience of managing and delivering successful sponsored and gala events (or similar largescale corporate events) meeting net targets and adhering to all appropriate legal and organisational policies Experience of developing and implementing supporter journeys to aid retention and maximise income and repeat business Experience of marketing events using a variety of channels and an understanding of the importance of digital and mobile media as a tool to recruit and build relationships with supporters Working with trustees, honorary roles and volunteers to harness their support of fundraising Working with staff in other teams to achieve objectives Legislation, regulations and financial issues relating to fundraising Ability to work within a fast moving environment, identifying and responding appropriately to changing priorities and meeting tight deadlines Enthusiasm and commitment to Ambitious about Autism s mission and values IT literate Knowledge of Raiser s Edge Personal Attributes Ambitious about Autism is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
