1 JC A-Connect Hong Kong ASD Conference 2016: Supporting Learning and Development Speakers of Parallel Symposia Biography Symposium I Dr. Pamela Chan Yin-wai Educational Psychologist, Education Bureau, HKSAR Dr. Dorothy Li Wing-yee Educational Psychologist, Education Bureau, HKSAR Dr. Chan and Dr. Li are educational psychologists in the Education Bureau with more than ten years of experience. In recent years, they are leading a team of educational psychologists to try out a Tiered Autism Intervention Model for the support of students with ASD in ordinary primary and secondary schools. They are also members of the Steering Committee of the JC A-Connect Project. Mr. Pokky Choi Poi-ki Educational Psychologist, Caritas-Hong Kong Mr. Choi has extensive experience working in school and centre-based setting supporting students with special educational needs (SEN). Recently Mr. Choi was actively involved in the JC A- Connect Project. Miss Cathy Lam Ka-yin Registered Social Worker and Project Coach, Caritas-Hong Kong Miss Lam has been working with students with SEN and their families for more than 5 years. Miss Rebecca Lee Wai-shan Registered Social Worker and Project Coach, Caritas-Hong Kong Miss Lee has been working with students with SEN and their families for more than 10 years. Dr. Galen Liu Ying Dr. Liu worked closely with multi-disciplinary professional teams in providing assessment and intervention for children and adolescents with special needs and also put great effort in providing professional consultation and training to parents and teachers for more than 10 years at Heep Hong Society. Dr. Liu is now specialized in working with individuals with Autism of different ages and helps for the development of service models for this population. Recently, Dr. Liu acts as the Advisor of the School Support Project of JC A-Connect. 1
2 Mr. Rex Wong Chun-kit Mr. Wong has extensive clinical experience in providing psycho-educational assessment and intervention services for children with special educational needs (SEN) and their families as well as conducting professional training for principals, teachers and parents on wide-ranging topics. Mr. Wong was actively involved in developing school-based support programs for preschool children on literacy development in the READ & WRITE Project. Recently, Mr. Wong acts as the Advisor of the School Support Project of JC A- Connect. Symposium II Ms. Cecilia Hon Yan-ting Project Coordinator and Head Coach of JC A-Connect, New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association Ms. Hon is a registered social worker and dedicated in working with persons of special needs and integration. She has devoted her efforts to services for persons challenged by ASD for five years and actively participated in the program design for adolescents with ASD. Mr. Ng Chun Sang Registered Social Worker (Team Leader), SKY Family and Child Development Centre, The Salvation Army Mr. Ng has been working with persons with special education needs (SEN) and their families for more than 15 years, specialized in individual and group training, family casework and parent coaching for persons with ASD. Ms. Pun Wing Man Speech Therapist and Advisor of JC A-Connect, SKY Family and Child Development Centre, The Salvation Army Ms Pun is the certified leader of More Than Words The Hanen Program for Parents of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. To consolidate her professional practice and training experiences with persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) over 12 years, she has wrote 快樂傳情 - 自閉症譜系障礙兒童社交訓練手冊 in 2015 for parents with ASD children. Symposium III Ms. Joanne Wong Ka-yan Registered Social Worker and Project Manager of JC A-Connect (School-based Support Programme), SAHK Ms. Wong has over nine years of solid working experience in servicing the ASD and SEN students in ordinary school and also the related teaching personnel and parents. Previously, she was the coordinator of SAHK A-Plus Project that provided comprehensive support services for promoting inclusion of students with ASD in ordinary schools. She is one of the authors of the publication 朋輩支援新歷程 : 支援自閉症學生的策略及實例. She is a qualified provider of the Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS ). 2
3 Ms. Rachel Ma Nga-lun Educational Psychologist and Advisor of JC A-Connect (School-based Support Programme), SAHK Ms. Ma has worked in different school sponsoring bodies, Education Bureau and special schools for children with intellectual disabilities for more than ten years, providing school-based educational psychology service for primary and secondary schools students (with SEN and ASD) including students training, teacher and parent education, and also school system support to enhance schools capacity to cater for students diverse needs. Ms. Winnie Tam On-yee Speech Therapist and Advisor of JC A-Connect (School-based Support Programme), SAHK Ms. Tam has seven years of working experience in supporting children with ASD and SEN. She worked with SAHK A-Plus Project previously to provide therapy services to students with autism in primary and secondary schools. She is dedicated in developing and conducting social communication training for the students with autism, parents and teachers in mainstream schools and preschools. Ms. Winnie Chan Wing-yan Clinical Psychologist, Education Division, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Ms. Chan is a clinical psychologist and a certified provider of the Programme for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS ). She has been providing social skills training for adolescents with ASD. Ms. Chan and her team had also conducted a local study on friendship expectation and social needs of ASD adolescents in She also works with the team to develop another Social Competence Intervention programme for adolescents with ASD as funded by the Quality Education Fund. Apart from providing support service and workshops for parents and teachers, she also renders individual psychotherapy for students with ASD and mental health difficulties. Symposium IV Ms. Cherry Ku Project Officer of JC A-Connect (Family Support Programme), Caritas-Hong Kong Ms. Ku has over 10 years of experience in providing rehabilitation service. Additional with her experience as an IC of the Special Child Care Centre of Caritas-Hong Kong, she has thorough understanding of children with special needs. Ms. Ku is now the project Officer of JC A-Connect (Family Support Programme). She leads a team to provide supporting services such as individual consultation, psychoeducational talks and therapeutic groups to family members with children on the autism spectrum. Ms. Do Do Ho Social Worker, Caritas-Hong Kong Ms. Ho owns a Bachelor Degree of Social Work and a Master Degree of Educational Psychology majoring in integrated education. She is the founder and programme director of Enrich in Fingertips Limited. With more than twenty years of serving toddlers, children, youths and families, she provides diversified training courses and talks to schools and organizations. She also served 3
4 as a part-time instructor and fieldwork supervisor of the Child Education Diploma programme of the Vocational Training Council for more than seven years. Mrs. Lau Mrs. Lau is a mother of a five year-old child with ASD. Mr. Stanley Chan Mr. Stanley Chan is one of the Educational Psychologists of Heep Hong Society. He possesses a Master degree in Educational and Child Psychology from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, an honours degree in Bachelor of Social Science in Psychology from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Mr. Chan is one of the core researchers of the Happy Parenting Programme ( 教得其樂 ). He also possesses the instructor qualification of Triple P Parenting Programme by the University of Queensland, Australia. His research received the 2012 Triple P Early Career Research Award. He currently focuses on promoting parenting skill training and providing emotional support through mindfulness approach. Ms. Lee Kwan Yu Team Leader of JC A-Connect (Family Support Programme), Heep Hong Society Ms. Lee is a senior social worker of Heep Hong Society. She possess a Master degree in Applied Psychology (Diverse Learning Needs) by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, a postgraduate diploma in Psychology by the University of Hong Kong, and a bachelor degree in Social Work (Honours) by the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Ms. Lee has over 10 years of pre-school rehabilitation experience. She currently focuses on providing counselling and parenting skill training to parents of SEN children. Ms. Kaye Lung Ka-ying Project Manager of JC A-Connect (Family Support Programme), SAHK Ms. Lung is a registered social worker who has experience in serving children with Autism and their parents. She had provided social skill training to primary and secondary school students with Autism in schools and community. She assisted children to better adapt their first year in mainstream primary schools through meetings and consultations with both school teachers and parents. She also delivered comprehensive support services for promoting inclusion of students with ASD in ordinary schools. Ms. Lung has been rendering various parent services to enhance the abilities and confidence of parents in supporting their children with ASD, and also providing emotional support for them. Ms. Cacao Wu Ka-yan Social Worker of JC A-Connect (Family Support Programme), SAHK Ms. Wu is a registered social worker. She has been conducting parent education programs which mainly focus on helping parents of children with Autism acquire necessary information, knowledge and skills in understanding and managing their children. She also renders Parent Support Programs to alleviate parenting pressure and address the emotional and psychological 4
5 needs of the parents themselves. She is the facilitator of parent-child groups which provide training for children with ASD and enhance the knowledge and skills of their parents. 5
