Brainspotting aims to engage the regions of the brain that are specifically in neurobiological regulation and bypass the regions that are not involved in it. 9

10 BSP appears to access the right brain, the limbic system and the brainstem (midbrain) BSP is accordingly seen as a physiological approach with psychological consequences It is hypothesized that a Brainspot is the activity in the subcortical brain in response to focused activation and eye position. 10

12 The Activation is paired up with the location of body activation when activating the presenting issue The Resource is the area of calm or groundedness located in the body while the client is activated around an issue 12

13 BSP is an open, creative, integrative model. It is designed to be adapted into any clinical approach and therapeutic style There is no turf when it comes to healing BSP appears to access the right brain, the limbic system and the brainstem (midbrain) BSP is accordingly seen as a physiological approach with psychological consequences 13

14 What s in the brain is in the body and what s in the body is in the brain Trauma overwhelms the brain s processing leaving pieces of the unprocessed experiences frozen in time and space 14

15 Unprocessed traumas are held in capsule form in the brain (Robert Scaer, MD) A Brainspot is seen as an eye position that correlates with a physiological capsule that holds traumatic experience in memory form 15

16 Brainspotting makes use of Dual Attunement which is the combined relational and neurobiological attunement simultaneously. This fits the model of Interpersonal Neurobiology (Siegel) It is the attuned, mindful, witnessing, compassionate presence of the therapist that supports the healing This mindful presence enhances the healing 16
