Conducted individual outpatient therapy using Motivational Interviewing and CBT interventions for clients with substance use disorders, including cocaine, alcohol, and other addictions. Rotation 2: Early Onset Pilot Program at Harris County Psychiatric Center: Inpatient rotation providing individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, and assessment to adults ages 18 to 35. Interventions targeted recovery-based strengths to reduce the need for future hospitalizations for clients within the first five years of the onset of mental illness. Provided diagnostic assessment and treatment for schizophrenia, anxiety and mood disorders, substance abuse, personality disorders, and trauma. Rotation 3: Developmental Neuropsychology Clinic at UTHealth: assessment of children, adolescents, and adults with developmental, neuropsychological, and genetic concerns. Created an outreach program to reduce stress during midterm exams by increasing mindfulness and physical activity to underperforming students. Arc of Howard County, Ellicott City, MD Volunteer Taught employment skills to intellectually and developmentally challenged individuals to obtain jobs in the community. Simulated a work environment in the employment program by incorporating teamwork skills and encouraging communication with group members. Beit Yedidim (House of Friends), Jerusalem, Israel Volunteer Supervisor: Shula Fruchter Improved and maintained residents memory skills through games, led daily exercises to maintain joint movement and muscular tone for clients with bipolar disorder, depression, and schizophrenia. 4 Fasteau 4 RESEARCH EXEPERIENCE Sept Predoctoral Internship Research: Substance Abuse and Bipolar Disorder Aug University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston, TX Supervisor: Thomas Meyer, Ph.D Analyzed 25 years of longitudinal data to understand how adolescent alcohol abuse, childhood depression, and maternal mental health predict hypomanic/manic symptoms in early adulthood. Use specific time intervals to determine stability or fluctuations in alcohol use (AUDIT scores) that may predict hypomanic symptoms (HCL-32). Jan Aug Aug May 2015 Aug Dissertation Research: Optimism and Perspectives of Institutional Fairness and Possible Selves Supervisor: William Arsenio, Ph.D Interviewed high school students in New Haven, CT to predict if students dispositional optimism will predict their beliefs of future success, and perceptions of social and economic fairness. Beliefs about academic possible selves, institutional fairness, and optimism measured with: the possible selves scale, lifetime orientation test- revised, system fairness scale, and wealth judgment and preference scale. Results: Students who behave consistently with system justification theory are more likely to invest in academic goals, whereas students who invest in other achievement goals are more likely to be dissatisfied with the current political system. Research Assistant: Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders Research Program Supervisor: Michael Wheaton, Ph.D Assisted in study design, IRB applications, and implementation of investigations into OCD and OCD-related disorders. Lead research assistant in project studying the prevalence and correlates of obsessional jealousy. Selected measures to understand how attachment, depression, anxiety and relationship functioning are related to obsessional jealousy and OCD. Masters Research: Can Schools Enable Resilience for Children in Poverty? Supervisor: William Arsenio Ph.D Explore risk factors and components of resilience that affect academic achievement for children in poverty. Discuss influences of income inequality affects resiliency, health, and emotional well-being. Understand how positive psychology can be applied in the education system to increase resiliency and protective factors.

Assisted analysis of research data and developed strong understanding of scientific method and process of psychological experiments.
