Marzouk TM, Sayed Ahmed WA INTERVENTIONS: Women in the intervention group (n = 30) were subject to an intensive dietary educational program with instructions to follow a conventional energy restricted diet, whereas women in the control group were instructed to follow the same healthy diet of the first group without calorie restriction. Dietary weight loss in adolescent women with PCOS resulted in significant improvement in menstrual regularity, BMI, waist circumference, and hirsutism score.

22 INOSITOL Considered a member of the vitamin B complex, is present in many animal tissues, with the highest levels in heart and brain Sourses: nuts, seeds, beans, whole grains, cantaloupe, and citrus fruits Involved in the enzymatic chain of the glucose metabolism Cellular functions of the nervous system metabolism
23 Inositol and the transmission of the insulin signal Inositol acts as an intracellular insulin mediator as inositolofosfoglicani (ipgs) 1 The main inositol stereoisomers are myo-inositol (MYO) and d-chiro-inositol (DCI) 1 In plasma, the phisiological concentration of MYO and DCI has ratio 40:1 2 1 Isabella R. e Raffone E. : Does ovary need d-chiro-inositol? - Journal of Ovarian Research Nordio M. e Proietti E.: The combined therapy with myo-inositol and D-Chiro-inositol reduces the risk of metabolic disease in PCOS overweight patients compared to myo-inositol supplementation alone -Eur Rev Med Pharmacol Sci 2012; 16:

34 THE RIGHT COMBINATION OF MYO AND D-CHIRO INOSITOL FOR OVERWEIGHT PCOS WOMEN We can get two combined goals 1 : - Improve ovarian function (MYO) - Reduce peripheric hyper-insulinemia (DCI) We can give the right supplementation of the two stereoisomers in the correct physiological ratio 40:1 MYO/DCI di 1 1 Nor dio M. e Proietti E.: The combined therapy with myo-inositol and D-Chiro-inositol reduces the risk of metabolic disease in PCOS overweight patients compared to myo-inositol supplementation alone -Eur Rev Med Pharmacol Sci 2012; 2 16: Carlomagno G. et al: Myo-inositol in a new pharmaceutical form: a step forward to a broader clinical use -Expert Opin Drug Deliv 2012; 9:

36 CONCLUSIONS The positive effect of MYO and DCI on ovarian function and on storage tissue respectively has been well documented A supplementation of MYO and DCI in the physiological ratio can be considered as a new way to treat PCO disorders
