4 NATIONAL PLAN OF ADAPTATION (NPA) DEVELOPMENT CONTEXT (1/2) Climate change became a reality in Burkina Faso the country faces Several serious climate change effects. Their appearance are in terms of extreme meteorological phenomena(floods, heavy rain, increased température, droughts, sand s wind ) Burkina Faso is a developing country, those are more exposed to climate change effects. The context is that the developing country have limited ressources to implement or to deal with climate change effects; Burkina Faso has ratifed the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), September 2, 1993 and Kyoto protocol March 31, 2005 national comunication dévelopment of politic to reducte GHG emissions Elaboration of National Adaptation Programme of Action (NAPA)
5 NATIONAL PLAN OF ADAPTATION (NPA) DEVELOPMENT CONTEXT (2/2) NAPA adoptionby the cabinet meeting in This plan contains urgents actions for adaptation climatic risk: rainfal variability, rise in temperature, strong winds Vulnerable sectors : water, agriculture breeding and Forestry Vulnerable Populations : women, children, small producers three pilot projects was elaborated Neccessity to have a strategy document linked adaptation in the medium and long term in taking into account every vulnerables sectors. 6 PROCESS OF DEVELOPING THE NPA (1/2) Elaboration: November 2012 January 2015 Carry out of climate modelisation studies, accessment of risks and analysis of differnts socio-economics activities sectors s vulnerability; creating a national staff wich components are national experts working under a senior expert for drafting the global and sectorials NPA Organize expert missions to visit the three pilot Project of NAPA; Plannig of meetings wtith the mains actors sectors by types of devlopment control and accessment of reports (regarding their quality and comformity) creating a technical monitoring committee
7 PROCESS OF DEVELOPING THE NPA (2/2) Writing the synthesis report followed by the development of the NPA document Organization of a meeting of the technical monitoring committee technical workshop on NPA introduction in the NPA documents of workshop remaks and conclusions Organization of a validation workshop at national level; Consideration of amendments followed by the submission of the NPA for adoption by the Cabinet meeting
