2 Comprehensive Surgical Approaches to the Skull Base GOAL The goal of this activity is to improve the understanding regarding relative indication for open and endoscopic skull base approaches, improve anatomic understanding of the full spectrum of open and endoscopic skull base approaches needed to treat skull base pathology, improve understanding regarding the indications and goals for surgery in the management of skull base malignancies. This activity will include pre-recorded lectures on temporal bone and anterior/ anterolateral skull base. These lectures will be available for participants to review before the activity, to allow for optimal time in the cadaver labs. The live activity will consist of four and a half days of short didactic lectures (tumor boards) followed by a hands-on workshop. The workshop will allow participants to gain experience with dissections and watch demonstrations by experts in skull base tumors. Educational Objectives After attending the conference, participants should be able to: Evaluate the role of surgery within the context of multimodality care in the management of skull base malignancies. Assess the relative indications for endoscopic and open skull base approaches in the management of complex skull base pathology and implement them into practice. Understand the anatomical basis of various open and endoscopic skull base approaches in the management of malignant tumors of the anterior and anterolateral skull base. Target audience Neurosurgeons, head and neck surgeons, otolaryngologists, rhinologists, otologists and neuro-otologists. Accreditation/ Credit Designation The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center designates this live activity for a maximum of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. CME Certificates and Attendance Verification Certificates Certificates awarding AMA PRA Category 1 Credit or certificates documenting attendance will be distributed to participants when an individual departs the conference. Upon request, a record of attendance (certificate) will be provided on-site to other health care professionals for requesting credits in accordance with state nursing boards, specialty societies, or other professional associations. Evaluation The activity evaluation will provide participants with the opportunity to comment on the value of the activity content to their practice decisions, performance improvement activities, or possible impact on patient health status. Participants will also have the opportunity to comment on any perceived commercial bias in the presentations as well as to identify future educational topics.

6 Comprehensive Surgical Approaches to the Skull Base About the MECCA Lab Registration The course will take place in the David C. Nicholson Microsurgical and Endoscopic Center for Clinical Applications Laboratory, a multidisciplinary state-of-the-art cadaveric surgical lab for education, training and research. It features 17 integrated stations with LED surgical lights and in-line cameras. Bidirectional video feeds and multiple 3D screens create a modern surgical operatory setting and allow the feed from a central workstation to be easily broadcast to the entire room. The lab is housed in Baylor College of Medicine s DeBakey Building and co-managed by MD Anderson and Baylor. On-site registration opens at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018, at Baylor College of Medicine, MECCA Lab, 1 Baylor Plaza, Houston, Texas. The conference will begin at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 26, and will adjourn on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018, at 12 p.m. Advanced registration is encouraged as space and materials are limited.
