Located at the ICR, in the Breast Cancer Research ivision, is The Breast Cancer Now Toby Robins Breast Cancer Research Centre, the first centre in the UK entirely devoted to breast cancer research. irected by Professor Andrew Tutt (also head of ivision), the main goal of the Centre is to advance research into the causes, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. The Centre is located in state-of-the-art laboratory space, with excellent core facilities and funding. We are currently seeking a Higher Scientific Officer to provide high-level technical support for a project running in our Histopathology Core Facility, which is based within the Royal Marsden Hospital, but would also require monthly visits to the ICR at Sutton. Applicants should possess a BSc egree (or equivalent qualification) in biomedical sciences or related field, and must have considerable relevant laboratory experience. The objective of this post is to provide technical support in the optimization and validation of centrosome abnormality measures detected by immunohistochemical methods. Additionally, the post will require provision of histopathology and molecular pathology technical support to research projects in the Breast Cancer Now Research Centre, located at Chelsea ICR site. The work will involve: Tissue preparation, microtomy Immunohistochemical and immunofluorescent staining Validation of immunohistochemical protocols and staining assessment methods igital imaging and semi-automated image analysis Maintenance of cancer cell culture, preparation of FFP cell pellets Isolation of biomolecules from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues Work-related record keeping Work to strict deadlines Attending and reporting in monthly meetings Technical assessment, quality control and quality assurance of laboratory s output Applicants should have considerable experience in histopathology techniques, either from a routine histopathology or research laboratory setting. Thorough knowledge of tissue processing, histological techniques, immunohistochemical techniques and digital pathology systems is essential, alongside with excellent organisational skills. These can then be applied to FFP tissues and, in the future, be applied to patient stratification in the clinical environment. The successful applicant will be attending meetings at the ICR Sutton in person or via videoconference and with the commercial funder on a monthly basis, and work to strict deadlines reporting at every meeting. Additionally, the post holder will provide histopathology and molecular pathology technical support to a wider group of research projects in the Breast Cancer Now Research Centre as time allows. This will include tissue handling and processing, microtomy, routine staining, immunohistochemistry, tissue microarray construction, digital imaging/image analysis, tracking of tissue collections, isolation of biomolecules and conduct of molecular pathology assays from material isolated from blood, fresh, frozen and formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues. RSPONSIBILITIS/UTIS Histological processing and cutting of tissue samples from both frozen and formalin fixed material. Process, store and track histological specimens for research projects in line with current guidelines. Immuno-histochemical and immunofluorescent staining of histological samples with previously optimised antibodies (manual and automated). Optimisation of novel antibodies and validation assays for sensitivity, specificity, reliability and reproducibility.

4 evelopment of multiplex immunohistochemistry techniques. Imaging of pathological material using a digital scanner. Validation and optimisation of computer based image analysis systems for immunohistochemical staining quantification. Analysis of histological specimens. Basic cell culture and cell pellets preparation. Performing histological specimen assessment using both bright field and fluorescent microscopy techniques. xtraction and isolation of nucleic acids from biological material including blood, fresh, frozen and formalin fixed material for molecular analysis. Ability to work independently and ensuring high standards of work are maintained within the facility. Undertake training of new staff in conjunction with the Facility Manager and to be actively involved in staff meetings and seminars. nsuring that the diverse requirements for the technical work needed within various research projects are met. Ordering the necessary consumables and equipment in accordance with budget limits Liaising with the Senior Pathology Research Technician and the Histopathology Core Facility Manager and other members of the team involved in centrosome abnormality studies and related in vitro and in vivo models. This will cover both the Breast Cancer Now Centre and the ivision of Cancer Therapeutics at the Institute of Cancer Research. 5 APPOINTMNT TAILS Appointment will be on a Fixed Term Contract until ecember 2019 in the first instance. The salary range is 32,628-40,619 per annum. In addition to annual performance related pay awards, the salary scales are reviewed annually to consider cost of living increases. Annual leave entitlement is 25 days per annum. This will rise by one additional day for every two years of completed service up to a maximum of 30 days in total. There is an additional entitlement to 8 bank/public holidays and 3 ICR-set privilege days.
