2 Third Annual Oklahoma Thoracic Oncology Conference The Third Annual Oklahoma Thoracic Oncology Conference, held through the University of Oklahoma and the Stephenson Cancer Center, addresses newer advances in areas of interest for lung and esophageal cancer treatment. This singleday program will consist of lectures and case discussions highlighting the multidisciplinary coordination of cancer care and the application of progressive technology to cancer care. Evidence-based medicine highlighting relevant clinical trial data will be provided as well as current controversies involving such care. INTENDED/TARGET AUDIENCES Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Gastroenterology, Pulmonary Medicine, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Thoracic Surgery LEARNING OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this activity, participants will improve their competence and performance by being able to: 1. Recognize and utilize innovative endoscopic methods in the management of thoracic malignancy. 2. Recognize and employ the multiple modalities in treating thoracic malignancies. 3. Interpret the clinical effectives of different surgical approaches to resect thoracic cancers 4. Construct palliative care in the treatment of cancer patients with advanced disease. SUBRATO J. DEB, M.D. (CO-COURSE DIRECTOR) Associate Professor, Department of Surgery, Section of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery OU College of Medicine Subrato J. Deb, M.D., a thoracic oncology surgeon, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery, Section of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Deb is board certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery. He specializes in the minimally invasive surgical treatment of all benign and malignant conditions of the chest and the surgical treatment of complex cancers of the thorax. KAREN ALLEN, M.D., M.H.A. (CO-COURSE DIRECTOR) Assistant Professor Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care; OU College of Medicine Karen Allen, M.D., a pulmonologist, with an emphasis on research. She received her Masters of Health Administration and medical doctorate from OUHSC. Dr. Allen is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary, and Critical Care. Dr. Bains has been responsible for creating innovative techniques in the surgical treatment of thoracic malignancies, including chest wall reconstruction with methyl methacrylate prosthesis. He has contributed more than 150 journal articles on the role of multimodality therapy in thoracic malignancies.
