2 You don t dress like they did in so why are you still culturing like they did in 1968? The year was 1968, and bell bottoms and tie dye were all the rage. Also in 1968, Hektoen Enteric Agar was introduced as a replacement for Agar for enteric pathogen screens. HE Agar may select for most Salmonella and Shigella (high sensitivity), but it also produces many annoying false positives (low specificity). It s a new millenium, and times have changed. Diagnostics introduces a better way to screen for enteric pathogens with CHROM. This chromogenic medium for Salmonella and Shigella is both sensitive and specific; without causing needless work-ups for Proteus. The formula contains a licensed patented chromogen and is the only one that yields chromogenic results for both Salmonella and Shigella. Once you make the switch, you will not waste precious time working up false positives (such as Proteus)! Times have changed, and isn t it time you stop culturing like they did in 1968? Plate incubated aerobically for 24 hours at 35 o C. Easily rule out false positives! Proteus mirabilis showing pale pink or tan colonies with small light to dark brown centers at 24 hours. Salmonella enterica showing colonies with large black centers with a clear perimeter. Escherichia coli showing small pink to violet-colored colonies. Shigella sonnei showing teal-colored colonies. Non- H 2 S producing Salmonella will look the same. Manufactured and sold in the US under license from Glycosynth Limited under U.S. Patent No. s 7,323,488 B2, 7,384,763 B2, and 7,709,223 B2.

3 Stool Culturing for Salmonella and Shigella Proteus effectively ruled out based on colony color! CHROM is a selective chromogenic medium for the primary screening of stools for the isolation and differentiation of Salmonella and Shigella spp. Colonies of Non-H2S producing Salmonella and Shigella will appear teal in color. Traditional DAY 0 TM DAY 0 Stool Stool Non-pathogenic organisms, especially Proteus, are easily ruled out based on Cat. no. G327 colony color! Mac Reduces costly false positive work-ups! Less colony picking, subculturing, and costly identifications Reduces the number of plates for primary stool setup DAY 1 Increases specificity Try a free sample in your lab! Reduces labor and material costs by up to 20% - call for data! HC HE or XLD S u s p i c i o u s co l o n i e s Utilizes a patented chromogen - Call a Diagnostics exclusive LIA, KIA, TSI or Urea Tube.
