2 The Future of the Peer Review Programme Simon Stevens has confirmed that the National Peer Review Programme for Cancer will continue. NHS England is in the process allocating funding for all of its programme funded activity. The funding for the National Peer Review Programme has now been confirmed and the level of funding will enable the programme to continue.
3 National Peer Review Programme 2014/2015 The 2014/15 National Peer Review cycle is now drawing to a close. It has been a challenging year in terms of recruitment of review teams and managing the process during a year of considerable change in the NHS. A significant amount of work has once again gone in to the Peer Review Visits and Validated Self- Assessment (VSA) for which we are extremely grateful. At the end of March 2015 the programme will have completed comprehensive peer review visits to paediatric diabetes services, major trauma centres and units and cardiothoracic transplantation services. In addition it has completed approximately 200 risk based visits to cancer services and a small number of specialised services. The programme has also undertaken externally funded work for cancer services in Northern Ireland, paediatric diabetes services in Wales and in Europe. In summary the programme has managed approximately 1800 VSAs and 500 clinical service visits during 2014/2015. Identifying and resolving approximately 100 immediate risk and 450 serious concerns.
4 The Cancer Programme for 2015 Biennial Validated Self-Assessment to be completed by the end of June 2015 for: Cancer of Unknown Primary Acute Oncology Skin Upper Gastrointestinal Hepato-pancreato-biliary Urology Breast Head and Neck Comprehensive Peer Review Visits to all Haemato-onocology services between May and September 2015 Visits to at risk cancer services between May and September 2015
