1 Impact Assessment of Mass Media Campaign on TB Findings from three states February, 2013

2 Key Research Questions Awareness and knowledge about TB Status of psycho-social indicators post campaign Exposure to the campaign and recall Changes in the key determinants (awareness, knowledge and psycho-social indicators) related to TB among those who exposed in the campaign

3 Methodology Target Respondents - Adult (18-54 years) male and female usual resident Field work conducted in the months of Jan-Feb 2013 Multi-stage cluster sampling -PPS random sampling for selection of wards/villages Each ward divided into sub-clusters with around households 3 clusters were selected randomly -Selection of HHs and respondents Complete listing was done in the selected segments 20 eligible respondents (10 male and 10 female) were selected using Circular Systematic Random Sampling procedure First criteria to be selected as respondent those who are having persistent cough for 2 weeks or more in last 3 months prior to survey Total targeted sample: 2540 A structured interview schedule was used

4 Project and Survey Locations 6 states and 30 districts both rural and urban Punjab Ludhiana, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Taran Taran Haryana Ambala, Sonipat, Mahendragarh, Rewari, Yamuna Nagar Bihar Buxar, Purbi Champaran, Nalanda, Paschim Champaran, Vaishali Rajasthan Bharatpur, Jhunjhunu, Barmer, Jodhpur, Nagaur Maharashtra Kolhapur, Kohlapur Municipal Corporation, Sangli, Sangali Municipal Corporation, Satara Karnataka Bangalore Rural, Bangalore city, Bijapur, Haveri, Chikmanglur

21 Key Take Out Significant increase in awareness about TB from baseline to end line. Significant rise in knowledge about Coughing more than two weeks is symptomatic of TB. This is evident in respective states also. People exposed to the campaign reported better awareness and knowledge level about TB. Significant positive behaviour towards diagnosis and treatment of TB found among those exposed in the campaign Respondents who exposed in the campaign, majority could recall the Bulgam Bhai Character. All those exposed to any media majority intended to go to Government hospital/clinic/phc/heath worker including DMC for diagnosis and treatment. page 21
