Healing Through Art classes Healing Through Art classes have resumed on Thursdays. Upcoming classes include: 11/20, Gratitude Painting 12/4, Thankful for... Brought to you by Wendy Wallace, MEd., local art teacher. These free classes are designed for those touched by cancer. Classes are held twice a month. Please call JBCRL to register for the sessions you are most interested in, More Coming! Writing as Healing Joan DelFattore, MS, Ph.D. retired University of Delaware English professor and author, facilitated two writing sampler workshops on November 4, Thirty-five people attended. They were enthusiastic about continuing a Writing as Healing program. Future workshops will be promoted via this newsletter and other marketing channels. *Creative Shindig on Thursday Dec. 18 from 5-6:30 p.m. Come gather, share and celebrate the creative spirit and projects of the Healing Through Art and Creative Journaling participants. The shindig will be held in the library and small conference room. There will be refreshments. Please RSVP to JBCRL staff, Ongoing: Creative Journaling You can come by the JBCR library to participate in Distance Creative Journaling. The collection includes pamphlets, books, journals, newsletters, DVDs, CDs, anatomical models and charts. The library is free and open to the public. Two computers with Internet access and printer are available. Pathfinders are available in stands throughout the cancer center, in the library, and online. We offer expert searches of the clinical and consumer health literature. Photography On Display Edward H. Ford s photos of mysterious castle landscapes are on display at the JBCRL. 6 NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE PROTOCOL OF THE MONTH N107C: A Phase III Trial of Post-Surgical Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) Compared with Whole Brain Radiotherapy (WBRT) for Resected Metastatic Brain Disease The primary goals of the trial are: Overall Survival: To determine in patients with one to four brain metastases whether there is improved overall survival in patients who receive SRS to the surgical bed compared to patients who receive WBRT. Neurocognitive Progression: To determine in patients with one to four brain metastases whether there is less neurocognitive progression at 6 months post-randomization in patients who receive SRS to the surgical bed compared to patients who receive WBRT. The secondary goals of the trial are: Quality of Life (QOL): Central Nervous System Failure: Functional Independence: Long-Term Neurocognitive Status: Adverse Events: Local Tumor Bed Recurrence:. Local Recurrence: CNS Failure Patterns: Eligibility: Four or fewer brain metastases (as defined on the pre-operative MRI or CT brain scan) and status post resection of one of the lesions. Any unresected lesions must measure < 3.0 cm in maximal extent on the contrasted MRI or CT brain scan obtained 35 days prior to pre-registration. No prior cranial radiation therapy. No cytotoxic chemotherapy during SRS or WBRT. No primary germ cell tumors, small cell carcinoma, lymphoma. No widespread definitive leptomeningeal metastasis. A patient with brain metastasis that is located 5 mm of the optic chiasm or within the brainstem is not eligible. Treatment: Patients are randomized to either: Arm A : WBRT 3750 cgy in 15 Fractions (site may declare 3000cGy in 10 fractions for all Arm A patients at that site) OR Arm B: SRS to surgical bed Gy in single fraction For information regarding this clinical trial or if you would like to have the list of open protocols ed to you, please call the Cancer Research Office at (302) or kee@christianacare.org.
