3 GENERAL INFORMATION GENERAL INFO
4 Practice teaching course in head and neck cancer management Overview Surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy remain the primary treatment modalities for patients affected by head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. major advances in this disease have been made in the development of newer technologies, such as in radiation therapy, whether by intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) or proton-beam therapy. There have also been significant advances in the surgical treatment of head and neck cancer and in reconstructive methods, allowing our patients improvements in quality-of-life. Treatments are intensive, and thus are associated with significant acute and late toxicities. As treatments have become more effective, survivorship and long-term quality of life have gained particular relevance. Aim of the course is to provide an overview of current evidence and management, recent developments, and insights into future directions for the management of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. Learning objectives After attending this course participants will be able to: Recognize rationale and benefits of working in a multidisciplinary team Summarize current treatment options for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma Critically review future trends in the management of and neck squamous cell carcinoma Target audience This course is meant for specialists with an experience in the management of head and neck cancer patients, including surgical, medical and radiation oncologists.
