How to leave a Gift in Will Your Will is the only way you can confidently ensure your affairs will be handled in the way you wish them to be. It can also be an important way to support the causes you are passionate about. After making sure that your family and loved ones are taken care of, a gift in your Will to the Leukaemia Foundation is a simple but powerful way of ensuring that our important work continues into the future, without impacting your lifestyle today. If you don t already have a Will, you will need to obtain independent legal advice from a solicitor or the Public Trustee about creating one. To add the Leukaemia Foundation to your Will please find our suggested wording on the opposite page. This wording can also be downloaded directly from our website at leukaemia.org.au. Use your Will to help beat blood cancer

I give and bequeath free of all duties (here state the amount/ percentage or share/residue or assets to be gifted) to THE LEUKAEMIA FOUNDATION OF AUSTRALIA LIMITED absolutely for the general charitable purposes of the said Foundation and I direct that a receipt of the proper officer for the time being of The Leukaemia Foundation of Australia Limited shall be a good and sufficient discharge to my trustee/s. We also suggest including the below optional clause: The reason I am making this gift to the Leukaemia Foundation is because [...]. (please identify connection with the Leukaemia Foundation). OUR HEAD OFFICE ADDRESS IS: St Pauls Terrace, Fortitude Valley QLD 4006 We recommend you seek legal advice when completing and or updating your Will. Leukaemia Foundation

Looking after patients - now and into the future Thirty-five Australians every day are diagnosed with a blood cancer such as leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma. Blood cancer and related disorders can develop in anyone, of any age, at any time and more than 60,000 Australians are living with a blood cancer or related disorder. The Leukaemia Foundation is the only national charity dedicated to helping more Australians with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related disorders survive their blood cancer and live a better quality of life. The Leukaemia Foundation provides a range of free practical and emotional support to blood cancer patients and their families including: Counselling Grief support Financial assistance Accommodation for rural and regional patients Education and information resources Transport to and from treatment. Each year the Leukaemia Foundation invests millions in life saving blood cancer research to improve treatments and is committed to supporting initiatives that improve health outcomes for blood cancer patients.

As a haematologist and scientific researcher I work hard every day in the hope that my research will bring improved diagnosis, treatment, cure and prevention for those with blood cancers. Chair in blood cancer research at UQ Diamantina Institute, Professor Maher Gandhi.

Pam s parents the inspiration behind her gift Pam Ganley was inspired to leave a gift in her Will after seeing how her parents had supported the Leukaemia Foundation. My parents were supporters of the Leukaemia Foundation since it was first established in 1975, Pam said. Even though their lives had not been directly affected by leukaemia, they understood blood cancers caused devastation for many families and knew money was desperately needed for research and patient support. In 1991, at the age of 50, Pam married her husband Joe and decided it was time to update her Will. I was an only child and felt the money that had come from my parents should continue to fulfil their wishes and support the Leukaemia Foundation and other charities of their choice, Pam said. I decided the best way I could do that was to organise a gift in my Will to the Leukaemia Foundation. I firmly believe, after taking care of their family, people should consider supporting a charity like the Leukaemia Foundation when they are updating or creating their Will. Leaving a gift in your Will gives you the opportunity to support something you are passionate about like helping to beat blood cancers.

Strengthening our future The Leukaemia Foundation was established in 1975 by a small dedicated group who recognised the desperate plight of those diagnosed with blood cancer. At that time these cancers were a death sentence, and the few who survived had no access to emotional and practical support. Rural and regional families were forced to leave their home and come to Brisbane for many months of treatment. They often had nowhere to stay and were faced with financial hardship and isolation. The Leukaemia Foundation set four goals: to provide medical care, patient support, research and education for patients, their families and nursing staff. From these humble beginnings, we achieved these goals with milestones including providing the funding for Queensland s first Bone Marrow Transplant and Leukaemia Treatment Unit in 1987, funding and completing four accommodation and support service centres. A gift in your Will ensures that we can plan for a strong and productive future and continue to provide support and hope for the increased number of patients and families facing a blood cancer diagnosis. Your promise of future support is an investment in the lives of those living with blood cancer including leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood disorders. We can never thank you enough for choosing to leave a gift in your will to the Leukaemia Foundation.

A gift in your will ensures that we can plan for a strong and productive future

Things to consider Looking after your loved ones will no doubt be your first priority. Consider talking with them about your plans to leave a gift in Will, and discuss with them why our work is important to you. Whether you have few possessions or many, you should have a Will. You should also review your Will regularly to ensure it reflects you current wishes. A gift in your will is a simple way of supporting the Leukaemia Foundation without affecting your current lifestyle and financial situation. You don t have to be elderly to start thinking about a gift in your Will. Many younger people are taking the opportunity to support a cause they feel passionately about when they create or review their will. Whether your gift is large or small, even $1000 will make a valuable contribution to ensuring the future work of the Leukaemia Foundation. If you have decided to leave a gift in your will we would love to hear from you. Knowing about these gifts can help us to plan for the future. Use your Will to help beat blood cancer

Please help more Australians beat blood cancer Can we help answer any questions? To talk to us about leaving a gift in your Will, or to let us know that you have included the Leukaemia Foundation in your Will, please contact Emma. We respect your privacy.
