The event will be held at the Catawba Springs Golf Course in Hickory, NC on September 25, 2017 and will be a Captain s Choice Tournament.

Over 100 participants from our area are expected to attend this celebration in our battle against lung cancer, the leading cancer killer.

WHY This Cause: About Harold & Susan Harold Morrow began his battle in November 2010 after being diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. He was told he had only six months.

Hicks will unite people to make a difference for lung cancer across North Carolina. The event will be held at the Catawba Springs Golf Course in Hickory, NC on September 25, 2017 and will be a Captain s Choice Tournament. All net proceeds will benefit the Lung Cancer Initiative of North Carolina. Over 100 participants from our area are expected to attend this celebration in our battle against lung cancer, the leading cancer killer. We invite you to join with other corporate and individual leaders in making a contribution to this event. The more money raised, the closer we come to finding a cure for lung cancer! WHY This Cause: About Harold & Susan Harold Morrow began his battle in November 2010 after being diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. He was told he had only six months. But Harold fought with determination and the tenacity to live. When radiation and surgery were not an option he began aggressive chemotherapy. When the treatment showed no success he decided to search for clinical trials. He was told there was no guarantee in trials and that they were often harder than chemo. But he always responded that he wanted to fight and help the next cancer patient in finding a cure. He would enter the treatment centers with a smile and eagerness that would give hope to everyone he met. Harold was well-known in the Hickory community from his years of working for the telephone company and then becoming the owner of Custom Wallcovering & Painting Co. He made many friends not only with his professionalism but with his smile and work ethic. He was always known for his upbeat and encouraging attitude. Harold loved to spend time with Lina, his wife of 47 years. He was a role model and friend to his three children and the best Paw-Paw to six grandchildren. He loved to fish, hunt and spend time laughing. Though his battle ended on August 23, 2012, his family will carry on his legacy to raise awareness and find a cure for lung cancer. Susan C. Hicks, a loving wife and mother, lost a short battle to lung cancer at the young age of 51. Susan was a friend to everyone she met and was very active in the community and her church. A graduate of Appalachian State University and a former tax collector in Person County, she moved to Rock Barn in Catawba County in 1993 with her husband, Gary, and two daughters, Anderson and Beth. From day one Susan was involved in the Conover Service League and was its president for many years. She became involved with the children and youth at First Presbyterian Church in Newton. FPC Newton was so impressed with her work that they hired Susan as both its Children and Youth Director. These interests led her to run for the Newton Conover City School Board; she was elected and was Vice Chairman at the time of her death. Susan wanted to beat cancer and survive to help others fight this battle. Her legacy is being carried on through the Susan C. Hicks Hope Charities, a partner of the Lung Cancer Initiative of North Carolina. Together the fight will go on and Susan s legacy and love for everyone around her has and will make an immeasurable difference.

Lung cancer claims more lives than breast, prostate, colon, liver, kidney and melanoma cancers COMBINED.
