3 NanoVit oa Bioactive phyto-omegas 3, 6, Regeneration and Antioxidant Activity NanoVit oa is a nano-emulsion loaded with sea buckthorn pulp oil. Sea buckthorn is a hardy plant able to resist high and low temperatures, dryness, sand and salt. Sea buckthorn pulp oil has a unique fatty acid composition: It contains more than 50 % of unsaturated fatty acids and is exceptionally rich in omega-7 which is rarely found in the plant kingdom. The encapsulation of sea buckthorn pulp oil in a nano-emulsion increases its penetration and activity while protecting it from deactivation. NanoVit oa combines antioxidant activity with a regenerative effect. Thus, it can prevent lipid peroxidation while improving the skin metabolism resulting in a healthylooking skin. NanoVit oa is ECOCERT approved. Claim Ideas for NanoVit oa Regenerates the skin Protects against UV damage Antioxidant activity For a vital and healthy-looking skin Applications Face care: anti-aging, regeneration After-sun care: repair Body care: smoothing, revitalizing Make-up: protection against dehydration Formulating with NanoVit oa Recommended concentration: 1 5 % Incorporation: For cold processes, dissolve NanoVit oa into the aqueous phase. In cold / hot processes, add during the cooling phase below 50 C. Thermostability: temperatures of up to 60 C for a short time do not affect the stability of NanoVit oa. INCI / CTFA-Declaration Lecithin (and) Hippophae Rhamnoides Oil (and) Tocopherol (and) Glycerin (and) Sodium Benzoate (and) Aqua / Water February 2013
4 Sea Buckthorn Berries A highly nutritive and antioxidant superfruit Sea Buckthorn; a Sea Coast Plant Sea buckthorn is a branched spiny shrub with silvery-color leaves and bright orange fruits which is native to Europe and Asia. Sea buckthorn plants are very hardy and can withstand temperatures from 43 to 40 C. They occur in dry, sandy areas and tolerate salt in the air and soil. The name sea buckthorn derives from its characteristic to grow near the sea and from the many spines or thorns that are present in some species. A Plant Used over Centuries Sea buckthorn is a herbal medicine used over centuries to promote the recuperation of skin injuries and to support the healing of skin diseases. Tibetan writings, which go back more than 1000 years, already recorded the medical use of sea buckthorn extract. In ancient Greece, the plant was fed to race horses to improve their health and impart a gloss to their fur. This provided the basis for the Latin name Hippophae rhamnoides, Hippo : horse, and phaos»: to shine. Sea Buckthorn Berries Sea buckthorn bears berries which ripen at the end of August /beginning of September and are very difficult to harvest. Due to their nutrient richness, antioxidant value and health benefits, they belong to the superfruit category and are mainly used for jams, juices and nutritional supplements. In addition, the pulp oil of sea buckthorn berries is particularly rich in poly-unsaturated fatty acid (PUFA).
5 A Combination of Omega 3, 6, 9 and 7 Sea buckthorn pulp oil contains 50 % unsaturated fatty acids, some of which are very rare in the plant kingdom. Sea buckthorn pulp oil contains more than 30 % of palmitoleic acid (C16:1 / omega-7). This very rare unsaturated fatty acid is a component of skin lipids. It supports the formation of cell tissue, promotes wound healing and protects the skin barrier. It also has antimicrobial activity, smoothing and calming effects. Linoleic and linolenic acids (18:2 / omega 6 and 18:3 / omega 3) are essential PUFA that are not synthesized by skin cells and must be provided as a nutrient. They are precursors of many other fatty acids; one of the most important being arachidonic acid (20:4 / omega-6), a PUFA with four double bonds. Omega-3 and -6 are structural components in every cell wall and membrane. They help to regenerate the skin and to support its functions. Sea buckthorn pulp oil also contains oleic acid (C18:1 / omega-9). This fatty acid, found in skin cell membrane, improves and balances the penetration of essential fatty acids across the skin barrier. Powerful Antioxidant Components Vitamin E is a natural antioxidant present in the skin. It prevents lipid peroxidation and also has antiinflammatory activity. β-carotene is the most abundant pigment in the pulp oil. It is converted in the skin to retinyl esters and is thus a precursor of vitamin A. While excessive amounts of vitamin A can be toxic, the body will only convert as much β-carotene into vitamin A as it needs. As an antioxidant, β-carotene can counter a specific type of reactive oxygen species, singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2), that is induced by the UV-radiation from sunlight. ß-carotene is also reported to suppress UVA-induced matrix metalloprotease enzymes which are a key to the degradation of the extra cellular matrix. UVA rapidly destroy β-carotene in the cells. Thus the carotenoid has to be replenished after exposure to sunlight. Structure of Palmitoleic Acid (omega-7) H CH 3 (CH 2 ) 4 CH 2 H O OH
