Emphasis was placed on the area residents' opposition to this amendment, due to noise generated from the repair and maintenance of rail cars. The suggestion was made that noise would not be substantially different than that generated by the repair and maintenance of farm equipment. It was pointed out that farm industrial uses in the rural area are, essentially, for providing services to neighbouring farmers. One member of Council asserted that the railway is a vital part of the farming economy. The motion was then put and DEFEATED Opposed: Councillors Boyes, Gibson, Lee, Ross, Warawa, and Wiebe
