6 Acknowledgements First and foremost I would like to thank Prof. Stephan Kröger for giving me the opportunity to perform my PhD Thesis in his laboratory. I want to thank him for his constant supportfor sharing his great knowledge in neuroscience and for sharing his experience on giving a talk. He was always friendly and patient. He was encouraging me, following my project with great interest, discussing with me and guiding me to the right direction whenever necessary. Thank for the relaxing environment in his lab, so that I enjoyed the process on doing research. Thanks to Prof. George Boyan for being my supervisor from the Department of Biology and member of my thesis committee meeting; contributing ideas and copious discussion. Thanks to Dr. Ilona Kadow for being on my thesis committee, and being an excellent example, doing science with kids, this encouraged me a lot. Special thanks to my companion in arms ---- Andromachi, we spend most time together, complaining to each other, encouraging each other, discussing with each other, now we are almost reach the destination, just persisting the last distance. It is you, my mother and my mother in law, who was travelling from China at least 24 hours to Munich every six months and stayed with me for three month alternately. You were not only taking care of my child, but also taking care of me, so that I could be concentrated in my PhD thesis. Without you, I would not have managed to complete my PhD.
