1 ICD-9-CMCoding I Common Course Outline Course Information Organization South Central College Revision History Course Number HC 1920 Department Health Careers Total Credits 3 Description This course is the first in the introduction of the coding rules and conventions for coding diseases and procedures and in-depth study of ICD-9-CM. This system is used in all health care facilities for diagnosis and in hospitals for coding of procedures. Outline medical procedures encountered in the various health care settings b. Relate the procedure to the process of coding 3. Define what is coding a. Outline the necessity of coding for reimbursement b. Compare coding systems to other non-medical use of numbers 4. Introduce the ICD-9-CM manual
