There is a Proven Solution Even If Nothing Else Has Worked! About the McPhail Pain Relief Center Dr. Drew K. McPhail developed the DRS Protocol because of the prevalence in the incidence of diagnostic hurdles patients face and the concerns and risks about back and neck surgery. The DRS Protocol has proven to be an extremely successful and safe alternative to surgery. The DRS Protocol is the most advanced treatment protocol available to U.S. doctors for nonsurgical treatment of lumbar and cervical disc conditions. The treatment utilizes a combination of treatment elements which includes nonsurgical axial decompression, standard chiropractic, and multiple therapies. Results produced are increased blood flow to the injured area, decreased pain, increased function/mobility and tissue repair. The outcomes are astounding, and all without invasive or painful procedures such as surgery! Dr. McPhail develops a customized treatment program for each patient based on his or her specific condition. The DRS Protocol is noninvasive and drug-free. There is absolutely no concern about drug interactions. It is completely safe and it works! Dr. Drew K. McPhail In addition to having good outcomes, patients are able to get off of addictive pain medications and other drugs that can affect them both physically and mentally! 3 WHAT IS THE DRS PROTOCOL? AND HOW DOES IT WORK? The DRS Protocol (Decompression, Reduction, and Stabilization) is a comprehensive combination of treatment elements which includes decompression and multiple therapies and it focuses on Patient Centered Healthcare and best healthcare practices approach. The DRS Protocol was developed by Richard E. Busch, III, and has been changing patients lives since The DRS Protocol has been proven extremely effective for involved and chronic disc conditions: degenerative disc disease, herniated disc(s), numbness and tingling of the hands/arms and legs/feet, as well as sciatica, posterior facet syndrome, spinal stenosis and failed back and neck surgeries. Dr. McPhail customizes treatment for each patient s needs, as each patient s health and condition is unique. The DRS Protocol produces decompression to the disc which can reduce painful herniation and pain from other disc-related degenerative conditions by increased blood flow to the injury, increased mobility and tissue repair. Dr. McPhail states, When someone is suffering from back or neck pain, there is no reason to be fearful of treatment and to continue living in pain. There is a successful and noninvasive alternative - the DRS Protocol. My purpose is to inform those suffering from chronic neck or back pain that surgery is not their only option. Their treatment path does not need to be long, frustrating, and full of THE FACTS ABOUT DRS PROTOCOL The DRS Protocol Successfully Treats Appropriate Low Back and Neck Pain Non-Surgical Drug-Free Pain-Free Keeps You on the Job Successful Alternative to Surgery DRS Protocol is a Unique and Proprietary Protocol Found Only at McPhail Chiropractic mediocre results. 5 WHAT CAUSES BACK AND NECK PAIN? Herniated and Bulging Disc: Discs are located between the vertebrae (bones of the spine) and act as shock absorbers for the spine. The outer disc wall known as the annulus fibrosis surrounds a jelly-like center known as the nucleus pulposus. Through years of wear and tear, constant vibration or pounding, a slip and fall, coughing or sneezing, lifting and twisting or simply bending to pick up a piece of paper can cause a weakening of the disc wall and cause a bulge or tear and press on nearby nerves. This is a condition in which part or all of the soft, gelatinous central portion (nucleus pulposus) of an intervertebral disc is forced into a weakened part, (annual fibrosis), of the disc, resulting in back or neck pain and nerve root irritation. This condition has been referred to as herniated disc(s) or bulging disc(s). Normal Vertebra and Disc C6-7 Herniation C6-7 disc C6-7 disc herniation C7 vertebra Spinal cord Spinal cord compression Left Right Superior view Sciatica: Sciatica refers to pain felt along the length of the sciatic nerve. The pain is usually felt in the buttock where it radiates down the leg. If you suddenly start feeling pain in your lower back or hip that radiates to the back of your thigh and into your leg, you may have a protruding(herniated) disc in your spinal column that is pressing on the roots of the sciatic nerve. This condition is known as sciatica. Quite often leg pain or foot pain does not mean that there is a problem with the leg or foot, but rather that there is a problem in the low back, causing pain and possibly other symptoms to radiate, or be referred to, the leg or the foot. This can include muscle weakness. An important thing to understand is that sciatica is a symptom of a problem - of something compressing or irritating the nerve roots that comprise the sciatic nerve - rather than a medical diagnosis or medical disorder. This is an important distinction, because it is the underlying diagnosis (vs. the symptoms of sciatica) that often needs to be treated in order to relieve sciatic nerve pain.

WHAT CAUSES BACK AND NECK PAIN? Degenerative Disc Disease: Degeneration of the disc over time produces low-grade inflammation and irritation and is a major cause of chronic low back or neck pain. Because the discs in the spine do not have a dedicated blood supply, the discs must rely on a process called diffusion to receive their supply of water, nutrients, and oxygen. If the flow of these elements is disrupted, the vertebral discs can degenerate. This is a state of dehydration. Degenerative discs become more susceptible to injury from physical stress and day-to-day activities. All this can play a contributing role to serious conditions such as disc herniation, osteoarthritis and spinal stenosis. Degenerative changes in the lower back and/or neck also can diminish the ability of the spine to carry the load of the upper body. This can lead to forward slippage of one vertebra on another, a painful condition called spondylolisthesis. Spinal Stenosis: Your spine, or backbone, protects your spinal cord and allows you to stand and bend. Spinal stenosis causes narrowing in your spine. The narrowing can occur at the center of your spine, in the canals branching off your spine and/or between the vertebrae, the bones of the spine. The narrowing puts pressure on your nerves and spinal cord and can cause pain. Spinal stenosis occurs mostly in people older than 50. Younger people with a spine injury or narrow spinal canal are also at risk. Diseases such as arthritis and scoliosis can also cause spinal stenosis. Symptoms might appear gradually or not at all. They include pain in your neck or back, numbness, weakness or pain in your arms or legs, and foot problems. Nerve roots Spinal canal Stenosis (narrowing) The wear-and-tear effects of aging can lead to narrowing of the spinal canal, a condition known as spinal stenosis. Narrowing of the lumbar spinal canal pinches the nerves that go to the skin and muscles of the legs. Sometimes, the pinched nerves become inflamed, causing pain in the buttocks and/or legs. Most often as a result of degeneration, there can be inflammation and swelling pushed into the soft tissue structures on the front and the back of the intervertebral canal causing inflammation of the ligament on the back side of the spine, which can be referred to medically as hypertrophy of the ligamentum flavum. This in conjunction with degeneration and minor disc bulges can cause a narrowing of the intervertebral canal also known as stenosis.

DRS PROTOCOL IS NOT JUST ANOTHER TREATMENT IT IS THE SOLUTION! Anatomy of a Disc The most common diagnoses for low back and neck pain include herniated discs, degenerative discs, spinal stenosis and in many cases - failed surgery syndrome. Your spine consists of vertebrae or bones and discs that act as shock absorbers between the bones. The disc has an inner jelly like substance which is predominantly water called the nucleus pulposus. The outer portion is a rubbery cartilage substance called annulus fibrosis. Disc Problems Disc problems can apply pressure on the nerve, which causes an increase of inflammation around the nerve. Anti-inflammatories and other medications have self-limiting factors. They don t work very long. They don t correct the disc problem, and over time the pressure can cause long-term damage to the nerve. The damage can be permanent. The Symptoms The symptoms our patients are suffering from are very common, very painful and very real. They can range from lower back or neck pain, numbness and tingling of the arms and hands or legs and feet. Leg (sciatica) or arm pain, headaches, and the pain can be moderate to severe. Nucleus Pulposus Annulus Fibrosis Inflamed Nerve Treatable Conditions Treatable conditions are herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, sciatica, spinal stenosis, facet syndrome, neck pain, arm pain, numbness, headaches, and failed surgery syndrome. McPhail Chiropractic helps patients with conditions like these every day. Many patients have tried surgery, physical therapy, and/or epidurals and unfortunately have gotten no relief. We hear this every day - patients saying I ve tried it all. Even recommendations such as extended bed rest or extended use of high dose medications, and even failed back surgery can cause prolonged symptoms and further debilitate patients. Similarly, acupuncture, physical therapy, steroids, anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxants can fall short of treating the underlying problems associated with intervertebral disc conditions.

DRS PROTOCOL IS NOT JUST ANOTHER TREATMENT IT IS THE SOLUTION! What is needed to begin the healing process and make pain go away? In order to begin the healing process, the pressure inside the disc must first be reduced. The DRS Protocol does this by heightening the disc space and drawing the disc back into place The Solution The DRS Protocol is a proven advanced technology for nonsurgical treatment of the lumbar and cervical disc conditions. Dr. McPhail has successfully treated patients suffering from lower back pain and/or neck pain, herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, sciatic pain and even failed surgery pain. Some of his patients have had nowhere else to turn. They have exhausted all other methods of care. It is certain they all wished they had first known about the DRS Protocol. Those patients who have appropriate conditions are accepted to McPhail Chiropractic for the DRS Protocol treatment will have peace of mind knowing that Dr. McPhail, who has helped bring this technology to the forefront of care, has the experience and expertise to assess their whole case before recommending treatment. DRS Protocol is Safe and Pain-Free The DRS Protocol is so safe and pain-free, that many doctors refer their senior patients who suffer from degenerative disc disease to McPhail Chiropractic, rather than have them face the alternative of invasive procedures. DRS PROTOCOL is the Solution! OUR PATIENTS ARE THE PROOF! Thank you for relieving my lower back pain! I had seen another doctor before I came to the McPhail Pain Relief Center, and he wanted to hold everything in place with a steel bar and six screws. That s not what I wanted. I wanted to be pain free. I had seen commercials on television and decided to make an appointment. I m glad I did. Thank you Dr. McPhail for giving me back my life. I am not ready to give up yet!!!

True Story of a BACK PAIN SURVIVOR You could call her a survivor, fighter, or champion over her back pain... Case: Betty B Condition: Back pain Pain Scale: 7/10 Suffering: for over thirty years Since age 34 back pain was a constant part of my life. It was just a matter of how little or how much. There were limitations on what and/or when I could do the things I wanted to do. At that time, I also had a full time job outside the home. My body was leaning very forward or over to the right side on a regular basis. This had been going on for 38 years. Before starting care with Dr. McPhail, I had several different types of braces; many, many injections, rhizotomy, all types of pain killers, ice, heat, physical therapy, surgery on my right side and 30 days in the hospital with 40 lb. weights on each leg. Since I began the DRS Protocol with Dr. McPhail, my stance is upright almost all the time. I take only natural vitamins prescribed by Dr. McPhail. I have been able to fulfill my obligations with my family and church. I can do most of what I want to do, although sky diving is on my bucket list I haven t done that YET! Feeling good. If you are suffering with similar problems, call (843) Ask for an appointment with Dr. McPhail! He can help you get your life back! You ll be glad you did. Dr. McPhail has done an excellent job in the hiring of his associates; they are knowledgeable, courteous and friendly. They care about their patients. - Betty B. Even patients that have been dismissed as untreatable or beyond all hope may gain relief from the DRS Protocol. - Dr. Drew K. McPhail For a little over one year, I ve been dealing with degenerative and herniated discs causing severe lower back pain and decreased flexibility. Before coming to Dr. McPhail I had three months of treatment at a pain relief center receiving adjustments, physical therapy and trigger point injections, acupuncture, MRI with spinal injections and an anti-inflammatory with mild muscle relaxer. After two months of receiving DRS Therapy, I have more flexibility and far less pain in my lower back, X-rays even show rehydrated discs. If you are suffering like I had been, you don t have to live with pain. I immediately felt a part of the family and relaxed during every visit knowing how competent and invested in my recovery the staff is. They know everyone by name and always smile. - Christine D.

True Story of a BACK PAIN SURVIVOR You could call him a survivor, fighter, or champion over his back pain... Case: Jimmy C Condition: Back pain Pain Scale: 12/10 Suffering: for three years I am the caregiver of my wife who has Alzheimer's. I was helping her get out of bed one morning a couple of years ago and felt this excruciating pain in my back - I had crushed my L4 and L5. I went to my family doctor, he recommended I see a spine specialist; this doctor wanted to trim the disc, so we did that. Two or three months later I was still having pain, so they fused the disc. A few months later, I was still in pain. I had a laser treatment that was fairly expensive and not covered by insurance, but I was in so much pain I didn't care and just did it. I had several laser treatments and those treatments still didn't help. I went to a pain specialist; they gave me 3 epidural injections, and again those didn't help. The next suggestion was to do electrical stimulus which would be surgically implanted into my back. The physician guaranteed that would work. I'm still a caregiver for my wife and I couldn't pick up anything heavier than a milk jug. My wife weighed a little more than a milk jug, so I was looking for something to give me relief. I saw Dr. McPhail's ad in the newspaper and I checked off several of the symptoms on the check list. I actually checked yes on everything on that list because I hurt all over. My pain was a 12 on a scale of 10. I had a crushed disc and nerve damage that caused my knee to hurt. I took Dr. McPhail's DRS Protocol treatment and right now my pain level is about a 1. Dr. McPhail is working miracles with me! - Jimmy C. MCPHAIL PAIN RELIEF CENTER TESTIMONIAL I am a back pain survivor, and this is my story.
