HaeMORRHAGIC DISEASE It is supported by a recent document, which used the latest scientific research available on Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (VHD) and where it met the most rigorous requirements in terms of quality and efficacy using this new vaccination? 4 EASY TO FOLLOW PROTOCOL Because of the high quality of its contents and the low volume injected, Lapinject VHD can be used safely from 5 weeks of age Protection is effective from 6 days after vaccination Annual booster vaccinations are recommended It has been shown that rabbits before 6 weeks of age are resistant to infection from Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (VHD) However from 6 weeks of age rabbits become susceptible to the disease. Therefore it is advisable that they are protected from this age Vaccination from 5 weeks of age 5 COST-EFFECTIVE FOR THE PRACTICE VHD is presented in a vial containing 5 doses of 0.5ml Once broached, the contents of the vial should be discarded at the end of the working day (after 8-10 hours) VHD is COST-EFFECTIVE, even if only one dose is used per vial

Inactivated Vaccine against Viral Haemorrhagic Disease The only available vaccine where: One early injection at 5 weeks protects against VHD from 6 weeks of age for 12 months Only 0.5ml is needed per dose providing better local and systemic tolerance Dosage and Administration 1 dose of 0.5ml per rabbit, administered subcutaneously Primary vaccination: 1 injection from the age of 5 weeks. Booster: 1 injection every 12 months. Price Guide VHD vial of 5 doses Veterinary professional price Price per 0.5ml dose Promotional offer available from... until... CEVA Santé Animale has a long history and tradition of vaccine production. It has new state-of-the-art and ultra-modern vaccine research, development and production facilities in Europe and in the USA and prides itself on the production of high quality vaccines. This has contributed to its reputation as a key player in the global market of veterinary vaccines. References: 1. Data on file. 2. Prevalence information from MAFF/DEFRA. 3. VHD: Liquid oil adjuvanted vaccine containing a suspension of inactivated calicivirus of viral haemorrhagic disease strain 3116-AP. Uses: For the active immunisation of rabbits to prevent mortality caused by viral haemorrhagic disease (VHD). Onset of immunity: 6 days. Duration of immunity: 1 year. Mode of administration: Keep the vial at ambient temperature (approximately 25 C) for a few minutes before administration of the vaccine. Agitate the vial/bottle before use to obtain a homogenous emulsion. Once broached the contents of the vial must be used within a working day (8-10 hours). Contra-indications, warnings, etc: Administration at 5 times the recommended dose caused a pink discolouration of the skin to be observed, which disappears spontaneously in a few hours. Special precautions for use in animals. The vaccine is safe to use in pregnant females. However, pregnant females should be handled with the usual precautions. Only vaccinate healthy animals. Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction: No information is available on safety and efficacy from the concurrent use of this vaccine with any other. It is therefore recommended that no other vaccines should be administered within 14 days before or after vaccination with the product. Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the medical product to animals: To the user: This product contains mineral oil. Accidental injection/self inoculation may result in severe pain and swelling, particularly if injected into a joint or finger and, in rare cases, could result in the loss of the affected finger if prompt medical attention is not given. If you are accidentally injected with this product, seek prompt medical advice even if only a very small amount is injected and take the package leaflet with you. If pain persists for more than 12 hours after medical examination, seek further medical advice. Legal category: POM-V Marketing authorisation number: Vm 15052/4032. 3 NEW! Inactivated Vaccine against Viral Haemorrhagic Disease

A New Vaccine for VIRAL VHD is a tried and tested vaccination against Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (VHD), and is now available in the UK What are the benefits of 1 CONCENTRATED FORMULATION The dose of VHD is only 0.5ml Half the volume of the current VHD vaccine per dose 0.5ml to administer subcutaneously 2 HIGH LEVEL OF SAFETY VHD is a high quality vaccine, which can be used safely in pregnant and lactating females Smaller volumes per injection means better local and systemic tolerance1 Each batch is checked to ensure that local or general reactions at the normal dose are minimal An injection of 5 times the recommended dose volume to the rabbit has been shown to be well tolerated. 3 HIGH LEVEL OF PROTECTION VHD is an inactivated vaccine which has been proven to provide rapid and long lasting protection High standard of quality control Each batch is checked to ensure Protection from 6 days after vaccination lasting the whole year a protective dose (PD) of 100%

Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (VHD) VHD is a calicivirus which infects both wild and domesticated European rabbits. It was first reported in the UK in 1992 and has since spread across the whole country. 2 How is the disease transmitted? VHD is highly contagious and persists for a long time in the environment, as shown by the following chart: 3 At 4ºC At room temperature At 60ºC Days that the virus can survive The virus can survive for 105 days at room temperature and is resistant to freezing. It can, however, be killed by using 0.5% sodium hypochlorite (10% household bleach). 4,5 Infection can occur directly, for example via salivary, nasal or conjunctival secretions of infected wild rabbits, or indirectly, by environmental contamination from the urine or faeces of infected rabbits. 4,5 Once in the environment, it can spread by: Clothing and footwear Car/truck/bicycle tyres Contaminated bedding/food Birds/insects/rodents (e.g. rats/mice) Outbreaks of VHD can occur at any time throughout the year!

Are house rabbits still at risk? Yes. This is because the virus is very resistant in the environment. It can be carried into the house by insects, on the owners clothes/footwear and from contaminated food or bedding. At what age are rabbits susceptable to the disease? Any rabbit can catch the disease after 6 weeks of age. Animals younger than 6 weeks of age are resistant to infection. The reason for this is unknown but it may be due to reduced susceptibility of the immature liver. 6 What are the clinical signs of the disease? After infection, the incubation period is very short % of infected rabbits develop symptoms, which are caused by hepatitis and/or disruption of the blood clotting system. Clinical signs include: Sudden death with/without outward clinical signs. This may occur as early as 48 hours after exposure Bloody discharge from the nose, mouth and/or rectum Anorexia/lethargy Pyrexia - up to 105ºF or 40.5ºC Convulsions/paralysis Respiratory distress - associated with numerous clots in the small vessels of the lungs Liver dysfunction/jaundice - if the rabbit survives a few weeks The clinical picture may vary from the acute form, which is associated with sudden death with no warning or only a short period of obvious illness, to the chronic form (which occurs in 5-10% of infected animals), where the syndrome is initially clinically silent but which usually leads to death in 1-2 weeks, often as a result of liver failure. 7 There is no cure for the disease and 50-90% of affected rabbits die. The former figure (50%) has been demonstrated in isolated and well managed research colonies, whereas in field conditions, the mortality rate is usually 90% or greater. 6 In cases of an outbreak, often only those less than 6 weeks of age survive. Post-mortems may reveal liver necrosis and a pale looking liver. Areas of haemorrhage may also be evident, for example in the lung, trachea, thymus, kidneys and spleen. Why is it important to vaccinate early? It is important to vaccinate and protect rabbits against this disease, because of its severity and the fact there is no cure. As mentioned earlier, rabbits are at risk of the disease from 6 weeks of age, so it is advisable that they are protected from this age.
