6 National Committee National Committee for implementation of IHR was established ToR Assess the potential risks of the spread of any epidemic or the occurrence of any event on the local or international scale Review and update the requirements of the application of the IHR and make recommendations for actions and monitor its implementation Develop and update maps of potential dangerous sources such as water sources, veterinary and industrial activities, vectors, rodents and petrochemicals Assess the epidemic or event to know whether it constitutes a public health emergency that raises concern locally, within the Gulf or internationally and work to contain it in coordination with the concerned parties Facilitation and creation of a mechanism for exchanging information between the concerned ministries and the National Focal Point Develop and modernize national plans of action for responding to public health emergencies and activation when necessary Work to strengthen awareness among officials on the importance of the Health Regulations in their ministries and institutions

In-depth review of surveillance system: WHO Review Mission from September 2007 and recommendations were implemented Early warning system for respiratory diseases was established under the National ARI Surveillance (Weekly ILI monitoring) Rumors notification & registry exists at central and regional level Exchange information on communicable disease Surveillance: Communicable disease feedback system included as component of surveillance to inform the stakeholder and concerned parties Exchanging information on Zoonotic diseases with Ministry of Agriculture was achieved through establishment of National Zoonotic Committee All issues related to the IHR would be included in the NEW SOP manual (2012) VRAM

19 Human Resources Capacity Building An inter-country meeting on Outbreak investigation Training was conducted in Oman during 2008 with participation from EMR states. An Outbreak management training course was conducted in Oman from the 17th April 2011 to the 21st April The vision was Capacity building within the country for sustainable outbreak management training programs that cater to the perceived needs of the country with multidisciplinary approach and use of adult learning teaching methods. Two workshops on training for trainers on laboratory biosfatery biosecurity on Four Regioal workshops on laboratory biosfatery biosecurity on 2010 Training workshops Disasters management were carried on n 2011
20 Laboratory The WHO/EU/MOH project on all hazards bio-safety and bio-security public health preparedness and response is a unique collaborative project launched in 2010, that focuses on national capacity building in two main areas: to prepare for and respond to all Hazards emergencies to upgrade laboratory organization and competence for biosafety and bio-security. Assessment conducted in 2010 and recommendation carried on viz regular training workshop, abroad training fellowship in Germany & CDC in detection of highly pathogenic virus and molecular epidemiology of viruses.
