HPV Private Practice Toolkit Young Adult Vaccination
Young Adult vaccination Reports suggest 87% of physicians say they talk to adults about vaccinations, but only 47% of patients remember talking with their doctors about vaccinations 99% of doctors say they or their staff start conversations about vaccines, but 45% of patients say they bring up vaccinations at their routine appointments
Private Practice Toolkit This toolkit was created in an attempt to increase HPV vaccination rates for adults between the ages of years. (rates remain around 17%) Here you will find a variety of resources to fit the needs of your practice to fill the gap in communication and education about getting the HPV vaccine as an young adult patient.
Young Adult Vaccination Resources Many young adults have not been vaccinated against HPV for various reasons The HPV vaccines have only been available for a few years so this vaccine was not included in their routine vaccinations when these young adults were in school Many parents are not comfortable vaccinating their teenagers with this vaccine, but as the teens age they may be interested in receiving the vaccine as a young adult Prior to Health Care Reform their insurance plans did not cover the HPV vaccine; now young adults are covered under their parents insurance until the age of 26 and those plans that have not been grandfathered in are required to cover preventive services, including the HPV vaccine, without a co-pay from the patient If you have a young adult that has not been vaccinated yet start the conversation and help educate your adult patients on the risk they re taking by not being vaccinated as a young adult, as well as the benefits they will gain if they choose to get vaccinated Young adults can still benefit from the HPV vaccine even if they are already sexually active as they may not have been exposed to HPV or the HPV strains that are covered in the vaccine
Young Adult Vaccination Resources Here you will find resources and information on reasons to vaccinate young adults HPV college slide kit 10 reasons to get vaccinated as an adult Call to action Patient fact sheet HPV fact sheet List of web resources
HPV Vaccine Resources Keep resources about the HPV vaccine that your clinic carries on hand to give to patients who are considering the HPV vaccine Resources available in this section: Patient information on Gardasil Highlights of prescribing information for Gardasil Gardasil tear pad Cervarix package leaflet Vaccine handling tips
Assistance Program Materials The HPV vaccine is a relatively expensive vaccine Most insurance companies now cover the HPV vaccine, but not everyone has insurance Merck & GSK have assistance programs for low income, uninsured or underinsured patients You must get preapproval from the companies prior to administering the injection The process can take up to 10 minutes so keep the application and forms on hand for qualifying patients These programs are replacement programs, meaning each clinic must have the vaccine in stock and the companies will replace the vaccine dose used on qualifying patients
Assistance Program Materials Here you will find resources and information on patient assistance and vaccine assistance programs available Patient Assistance Program (PAP) template for Merck & Co., Inc Patient assistance applications in English & Spanish Vaccine Access Program (VAP) template for GSK Patient ordering management Temperature log
