No influenza activity was reported by the U.S.V.I. CDC Virologic Surveillance During week 16, 30.7% (66) of specimens collected from civilian labs tested positive for Influenza A. A (H3) accounted for 58 of the 66 samples, 2 were A (H1N1)pdm09, and 6 were not subtyped. Nationwide during week 16, 1.8% of outpatient visits reported in ILINet were due to ILI, which is below the national baseline of 2.2%. The percentage of ILI outpatient visits ranged from 0.5% to 3.4% across the regions reporting during week 16. Laboratory Respiratory Specimen Testing In week 16, 21% (188) of specimens tested positive for a respiratory pathogen. Influenza A and B accounted for 37% (69) and 40% (75) of positive specimens, respectively. Adenovirus accounted for 8% of positive specimens. Parainfluenza accounted for 7% and RSV for 3%. Week Ending 22 April 2017 (Week 16) SYNOPSIS: Influenza activity in Army and civilian populations as well as the number of respiratory specimens tested continue decreasing. Over the past four weeks, there have been more positive influenza B specimens than positive influenza A specimens. ILI Activity: Army ILI (influenza-like illness) outpatient visits in week 16 were 9% lower than the same week last year. Influenza cases: Two hospitalized influenza-associated cases were reported to APHC through DRSi in week 16: an Active Duty (AD) Service Member (SM) and a non-ad beneficiary. Viral specimens: During week 16, 188 of 901 (21%) lab specimens tested positive for respiratory pathogens. Of 69 influenza A-positive specimens, RHC-A reported 42 (60.9%), followed by RHC-C that reported 20 (29%), and RHC-P that reported 7 (10.1%). RHC-E and CENTCOM did not report any positive influenza A specimens. ILI Activity Army Laboratory Testing for Influenza A In week 16, 69 of 716 (9.6%) specimens tested positive for influenza A. This was a decrease from week 15 (10.6%). 58 (84%) of the positive influenza A specimens were from non-active duty beneficiaries. RHC-A reported 42 (60.9%) of the total influenza A-positive specimens. RHC-C reported 20 (29%) positive specimens, and RHC-P reported 7 (10.1%). RHC-E and CENTCOM did not report any positive influenza A specimens. During week 16, ILI activity was 9% lower than the same time last year and 3% lower than last week (week 15). AD SMs accounted for 28% of ILI clinic visits during week 16. In , AD SMs comprised 25% of ILI clinic visits on average. DRSi Influenza Case Reporting In week 16, 2 influenza-associated hospitalized cases were reported in DRSi: an AD Service Member (SM) and a non-ad beneficiary. The SM was vaccinated and neither had underlying conditions. At the same time last influenza season, 56 influenza-associated hospitalizations were reported. 92 cases have been reported so far this season.
