7 22 March 2014 Guinea Confirms outbreak of Ebola virus disease (EVD) Symptoms: high fever, bleeding and central nervous system damage Spread by body fluids: blood and saliva-live and dead Fatality rate can reach 90% Incubation period is 2 to 21 days No proven vaccine or cure Combat by - Identificaiton, isolation, contact tracing and monitoring, supportive care with rigorous attention to infection control, safe burials - communication and cooperation of public And whole health system.
8 25 March Health Security Committee considers ECDC risk assessment -low overall risk to EU but need to consider: -travellers and migrants from affected countries -patients with Ebola coming to EU -laboratory samples Previous guidance for preparation and information for public and professionals highighted.
